In one embodiment, a system for stimulating neurons of a patient in vivo is provided herein. The system includes a first energy emitting component positioned external to the patient configured to generate a first energy stimulus, and a second energy emitting component positioned external to the patient configured to generate a second energy stimulus, wherein the first energy stimulus comprises an intensity level below a predetermined threshold required to stimulate the neurons, and wherein the second energy stimulus comprises an intensity level below a predetermined threshold required to stimulate the neurons; wherein a combination of the first and second energy stimuli at a target location in a target tissue of a patient comprises an intensity level at or above a predetermined threshold required to stimulate the neurons in the target tissue and prevent the stimulation of neurons outside the target location.

Non-invasive in vivo deep nerve cell stimulation system and method

Methods, systems, and devices for a deep brain stimulation device using miniaturized components that allow integration with the implanted probe, and includes a skull-sited housing having all the controls and battery power supply for sensing events and generating and transmitting pulses in response to the sensed event. A processor based controller with memory within the skull-sited housing for executing monitoring instructions for sensing initiation of an unwanted electro-physiologically signaled event and recording the event in memory and triggering instructions for activating the stimulator to generate and record a treatment pulse in response to the sensed event and an interface between the processor based controller and a treatment provider for downloading the recorded event and treatment response and modifying the monitoring and triggering sets of instructions.

Spatial-temporal deep brain stimulation methods and systems

Methods, systems and devices to provide correction parameters for implanted electrodes by applying a cathode pulse to a bilateral implanted electrode while providing a synchronized anode on the opposite electrode. The electrical field can be 'shaped' over space and time to reach more of the targeted area by selecting various combinations of active contacts. The cathode lead directs the electrical field to the target and the placement and number of anode contacts activated determines the electric field path and rate of dissipation based on vertical and horizontal distance and timing. The correction parameter can be applied to anode and cathode contacts on a single implanted lead. Each lead can have plural anode and cathode contacts each independently controllable. Active anodes and cathodes are statically or dynamically selected to generate a shaped electric field to reach the target.

Methods for electronic directionality of deep-brain stimulation

Methods, systems, and devices to reduce power demands substantially for current deep brain stimulation DBS using smart technology type applications. The invention uses miniaturized components that allow integration with the implanted probe(s) themselves, and includes a skull-sited housing having all the controls and battery power supply needed. This avoids implanting obtrusive card-deck size batteries in the chest area and the use of vulnerable wire leads under the skin from the chest area to connect with the implanted electrode(s) on the skull, improving comfort. The Generating of non-continuous pulses on demand of conditions such as the occurrence of a tremor occurs, without having to continuously run pulses at all times, substantially increasing life spans over current techniques. Shaped electrodes and their methods further reduce power demands and efficacy by directing electric fields to focus towards specific areas and regions of the brain rather than inefficient 360-degree emission.

Spatial temporal deep brain stimulation methods and systems

Tactile communication methods, systems and devices for wireless touch communication which include an array of electromechanical transducers each independently capable of producing a vibration for communicating qualitative and quantitative tactile cues to a user, at least one electromagnetic field sensor coupled with at least one of the array of transducers for monitoring a change in an electromagnetic field of the array of electromechanical transducers and producing an output signals when a change is detected, wherein a change in a position of a transducer contactor produces the change in the electromagnetic field and a vibrotactile waistbelt for housing the array of electromechanical transducers and sensors, wherein the vibrotactile waistbelt is worn by a user to receive and send wireless touch communication respectively from and to a remotely located controller.

Electromagnetic field tactile display interface and biosensor

Eyewear for use by a person exposed to an environment of glare-inducing illumination. The eyewear has a frontal portion for confronting the eyes, which frontal portion extends between an upper and lower periphery. A transparent optical region is provided within the frontal portion for intercepting lines of sight substantially above and below the slightly elevated standard line of sight at the mid-pupillary position of the eyes. For normalizing overhead and reflected glare to a level of diffuse illumination reducing veiling luminance and asthenopic effects, upper and lower translucent regions arc provided within the frontal portion. The upper translucent region extends substantially upwardly from between the standard line of sight and the upper periphery of the frontal portion. The lower translucent region extends substantially downwardly from between the standard line of sight and the lower periphery of the frontal portion.

Eyewear having translucent superior and inferior fields of view

Apparatus for carrying out aircraft pilot training and proficiency procedures comprising goggles having selectively translucent regions adjusting sight distance through the windscreen of the aircraft while permitting unrestricted vision of cockpit instrumentation. The vision occluding regions may be provided as polymeric overlays having a translucency selected for varying visibility distances and which may be mounted upon the lens region of the goggles in removable fashion through the development of static electricity between the components.

Visual occulsion apparatus for pilot training

System, method and apparatus wherein eyewear is provided particularly suited for use in conjunction with luminescent displays such as visual display terminals and which serves to improve operator performance and reduce asthenopia. The eyewear includes a forward frame portion having a centrally disposed bridge section and right and left temple pieces extending from the frame portion. The frame supports a clear optical region dimensioned for intercepting lines of sight substantially only within the inferior field of view of the user's eyes and a translucent region intercepting and blocking lines of sight directed substantially outwardly from the mid pupillary position of the user's eyes within the superior field of view. Preferably, the clear optical region is pigmented to define an optical filter and this filter preferably is selected having a pigmentation in the yellow portion of the visible spectrum.

Eyewear with translucent superior field of view

A simulator arrangement wherein visual cues are generated by a video system at a display surface (18) spaced from an eye position (14). The image at the display surface is formed as longitudinal boundaries emanating from a vanishing point (VP) positioned a predetermined distance above a fixed horizon (30) image. Hue and texture visual information are developed between the longitudinal boundaries from a memory function (178). The slopes of the longitudinal boundaries are developed as the quotient of the value of the transverse displacement of a boundary from the corresponding position of the eye position divided by a value representing simulated height of the eye position. The arrangement finds particular utilization in conjunction with flight trainers.

Visual cue simulator

A flight simulator arrangement wherein a conventional, movable base flight trainer is combined with a visual cue display surface spaced a predetermined distance from an eye position within the trainer. Thus, three degrees of motive freedom (roll, pitch and crab) are provided for a visual proprioceptive, and vestibular cue system by the trainer while the remaining geometric visual cue image alterations are developed by a video system. A geometric approach to computing runway image eliminates a need to electronically compute trigonometric functions, while utilization of a line generator and designated vanishing point at the video system raster permits facile development of the images of the longitudinal edges of the runway.

Flight simulator with spaced visuals

An improved tactile control component for aircraft in which a tactile slide is positively driven through a box rack and pinion system from two oppositely disposed d.c. servo-motor assemblies. These assemblies include a relatively high RPM motor associated with a high gear reduction to achieve a positive and compelling tactile sensation at the hand of the pilot. Signals to the device are derived from the computer component of a flight director system or the like. To assure pilot tactile perception of the commands asserted through the apparatus, an emphasis is electronically inserted into command signals to accelerate the initial movement of the tactile slide at the inception of any given flight command. Through the relative positioning of the box racks in a mutually orthogonal disposition, the movement of the tactile slide may be along resultant vectors providing omnidirectional information particularly useful in controlling such components as the cyclic on rotary wing aircraft.

Kinesthetic tactile display system

A flight control type system which provides a tactile readout to the hand of a pilot for directing elevator control during both approach to flare-out and departure maneuvers. For altitudes above flare-out, the system sums the instantaneous coefficient of lift signals of a lift transducer with a generated signal representing ideal coefficient of lift for approach to flare-out, i.e., a value of about 30% below stall. Error signals resulting from the summation are read out by the noted tactile device. Below flare altitude, an altitude responsive variation is summed with the signal representing ideal coefficient of lift to provide error signal readout.
