A two stage compressor which provides a high capacity stage and a low capacity stage is used with multiple evaporator condensing units. A control system for controlling the compressor receives inputs from two indoor locations via thermostats. The compressor runs in the low capacity stage when cooling is called for from only one of the thermostats, but runs in the high capacity stage when cooling is called for from both of the thermostats. The control system controls the transition of the compressor from the low capacity stage to the high capacity stage, and from the high capacity stage to the low capacity stage.

Control unit and method for two-stage reciprocating compressor

Apparatus for deflecting the flow of supply air discharged from an air conditioning unit that includes a stationary frame mounted in the discharge duct of the unit cabinet. An inner frame is pivotally mounted within the outer frame. The inner frame contains horizontally aligned and vertically aligned louvers mounted therein. A remotely controlled motor is coupled to the inner frame for tilting the inner frame upwardly or downwardly to selectively direct the flow of supply air leaving the unit. The unit can be adapted for manual adjustment of the louvers by removing the motor and locking the inner frame to the outer frame.

Louver apparatus for air conditioning unit

In a heat pump system operating in the heat cycle mode, a sensor is provided for sensing either the pressure or temperature of a refrigerant. A speed controller receives an output of the sensor so that the speed (including cycle rate) of an evaporator fan is controlled, resulting in control of the pressure or temperature of the refrigerant. The temperature or pressure of the refrigerant is controlled for a heat pump system comprising one refrigeration circuit and more than one refrigeration circuit. A separate speed control is provided for a fixed speed motor, a sleeve bearing fan motor, and a variable speed ball bearing fan motor.

Heat pump operating in the heating mode refrigerant pressure control

A compressor discharge pressure control for a unitary outdoor fan, multi-split air conditioning system having multiple compressors, multiple evaporator coils, multiple condenser coils and a single outdoor fan. Pressure comparison circuitry compares the discharge pressures of the compressors to predetermined pressure levels to generate a plurality of pressure state signals. On/off monitoring circuitry monitors the on/off states of the compressors to generate a plurality of compressor state signals. Control circuitry controls the fan in accordance with both sets of signals under a predetermined priority scheme.

Multi-split fan control

A shaft extends across an air discharge opening and is rotatably mounted therein. A drive means is operatively connected to the shaft for rotating the shaft on its axis. A plurality of planar discs, are eccentrically mounted on the shaft. A pair of adjacent louver blades extending across the air discharge opening are pivotally mounted at their one edge in the air discharge opening. A spring is connected to the louver blades for biasing then into an engaging relationship with the discs such that, as the discs rotate, the louver blades are caused to rotate on their axes to cause a change in the direction of airflow emanating from the discharge opening.

Air sweep mechanism

A drive motor is located with its axis symmetrically between the parallel shafts on which a pair of louvers are rotatable mounted. A crank pin driven by the motor is connected to the two louver blades by drive arms attached to the upstream ends of the louver blades. A complete rotation of the motor shaft results in the louvers being relatively moved to sweep the air from an upward to a downward direction, while, at times, pinching the air to increase the throw thereof.

In a heat pump system intended for cooling operation at lower ambient conditions, a control is provided for sensing the compressor discharge pressure and for alternately providing power to and removing power from the outdoor fan in response to the discharge pressure respectively exceeding or falling below a predetermined level. Power is provided to and removed from the motor by way of a solid state relay, and the periods in which power is removed are controlled so as to exceed those periods in which the power is applied to the motor. The fan motor is supported by journal bearings, and the periods of time in which power is removed from the motor during the cycling process is limited to 10 seconds such that the motor does not come to a complete stop, thereby ensuring proper lubrication thereto.

Provision is made for stacking one condenser on another by mounting apparatus which includes a channel for receiving and supporting the existing feet at the base of the upper unit, and a clip member for securing the combination to the lower edge of the lower unit cover. Where the upper and lower units are the same size, a single fastener attaches both the feet and the clip to the channel. Where the upper unit is smaller than the lower unit, separate fasteners are applied to secure the feet to the channel and to secure the channel to the clip.

Stacking support brackets

A subcooler is provided in heat exchange relationship with the high pressure liquid refrigerant line flowing to the indoor coil, such that when a low pressure condition is sensed on the low pressure side of the system, the subcooler flashes a portion of the liquid refrigerant to the low pressure side to thereby maintain suction pressure to the compressor, while at the same time subcooling the liquid refrigerant flowing to the fan coil to thereby increase its efficiency.

Thermo-charger for multiplex air conditioning system

In a multizone air conditioning system, a controlled leakage of refrigerant is provided from the high pressure side of the system to an inactive fan coil circuit to raise the pressure therein, such that when that circuit is later brought into an active state, the flow rate of refrigerant suddenly entering the circuit, and the resultant noise, is reduced. In one embodiment the controlled leakage is provided by an orifice formed between the high and low pressure sides of a valve, while in another it is provided by capillary tubes interconnected between active and inactive fan coil circuits.

Continuous metered flow multizone air conditioning system

An electrical connector comprising a plug, a socket, and a switching mechanism. The plug includes a plurality of outwardly extending blades defining parallel blade axes, and the socket defines a plurality of receptacles for receiving the blades. The socket has two longitudinally spaced positions for forming two different electrically conductive circuits with the plug. The switching mechanism is provided for moving the socket along the blades axes away from the first socket position, then along the longitudinal axis of the plug, and then back along the blade axes toward and into the second socket position.
