A hanger bar assembly for sliding doors used in transit cars has at least two separate coaxially oriented, preferably tubular bearing segments which can slidingly engage a cylindrical rod secured above an entry portal of a transit car. Each bearing segment contains bearing means such as a ball bushing bearing. The tubular bearing segments can be secured to a hanger bar at selected locations, taking into consideration such factors as the location of door hanger support points above an entry portal of the transit car, the location where the sliding door interfaces with an adjacent sliding door, the horizontal width of the door, and the distance that the door must travel along the cylindrical rod. Each of the bearing segments can be sealed at either end to reduce the likelihood of dirt and other contaminants entering the bearing segments.

Assembly for transit car door hanger

A railtruck apparatus is provided for supporting a railcar body on two longitudinally spaced wheel and axle sets. The railtruck includes a frame having two side frame members, each defining a pair of longitudinally spaced cradles. A bearing housing is received in each cradle and includes a top wall, two longitudinally spaced side walls depending from the top wall, and an open bottom sized for receipt over a journal bearing of one of the wheel and axle sets. A removable bottom cap closes off each bearing housing to permit assembly and disassembly of the wheel and axle sets. A primary suspension is positioned between each bearing housing and the frame for supporting the frame on the bearing housing, and is retained in position on the frame when the frame is raised relative to the bearing housing. Thus, when the wheel and axle sets are removed from the apparatus, the bearing housings and the primary suspension assemblies are retained on the frame. The railtruck apparatus can also be provided with a load-equalizing spring assembly for supporting each bearing housing on one of the wheel and axle sets, the load-equalizing spring assembly being operatively interposed between the bearing housing and the wheel and axle set along the path of transmission of loads between the bearing housing and the wheel and axle set so that when the set is lowered in the bearing housing, the load exerted on the set by the frame is transmitted through the primary suspension and the load-equalizing spring assembly acting in series.

Railroad car for transporting transversely oriented cylindrical objects. The cargo bed of the car projects downwardly through the draft sills, interrupting the draft sills. The car has one or more troughs defined by pairs of facing cylindrical object support members. The support members at the front and rear of the car also transmit loads from the draft sills downwardly to lower longitudinal members which bridge between the respective draft sills. Also, a telescoping cover for a railroad car which covers the entire cargo bed during transport, and uncovers the entire cargo area at once without removing the covers from the car. Thus the entire car can be loaded or unloaded without shifting the covers. The front sections and rear sections of the cover telescope independently to the front and rear of the car, thus allowing the entire cover to be positioned outboard of the cargo bed when open while remaining on track means associated with the car. Removable one-piece and two-piece covers are also disclosed.

An articulated railroad car, which includes an articulated connector, rail truck and car body units, has at least one standard short-travel railroad car side bearing which is designed to permit down travel of the car body unit of at least 5/8 inch. In a preferred embodiment, one rail truck portion includes a long-travel railroad car side bearing. The long-travel side bearing includes a top cap member and a bottom member with a resilient member interposed therebetween. The long-travel side bearing permits roll axis movement of one car body unit relative to another car body unit to reduce forces on the rail truck which would tend to prevent its successful negotiation of curves.

A railroad train comprising a plurality of highway trailers hitched front end to rear end with the end of each trailer supported on an adapter releasably connected to the trailer and with the adapter permanently mounted on the bolster of a four-wheel double-axle railroad truck, desirably a swing motion truck, with the adapter also supported by side bearings mounted on the bolster and with the adapter desirably having a secondary spring suspension.
