An article of footwear made from new or substantially new materials is manufactured with vintage treatment processing to give the article of footwear a vintage or well-worn appearance. The article of footwear may be treated with discoloring substances, such as dyes or bleaching agents. The upper may be formed with wrinkles or a crushed heel portion, such as by using a thin or soft foam behind a polyester covering, eliminating the foam backing and/or heel cup. Further, a rubber outsole may be molded with uneven treads and/or discolored to give the rubber a degraded, worn appearance.

Article of footwear having a worn appearance and method of making same

An article of footwear includes a flexible cover shaped to envelope at least a portion of a wearer's foot. The cover has a sole region with inner and outer surfaces, the inner surface positioned to face the sole of the wearer's foot and the outer surface positioned to face in an opposite direction. The cover also has a plurality of apertures formed in the sole region. The article further includes a removable outsole nested within the cover. The outsole has an upper surface positioned to face the sole of the wearer's foot, a lower surface facing the inner surface of the cover sole region, and a plurality of lugs on the lower surface which protrude into the plurality of apertures.

Article of footwear with perforated covering and removable components

The invention is an article of footwear with an upper and a sole structure. The primary components of the sole structure are a midsole and a frame element. The midsole is connected to the upper in a forefoot region of the footwear, but is unconnected to the upper in a rearfoot region of the footwear. The frame element is structured to extend onto a heel portion of the upper and around the heel portion to thereby stabilize the heel portion. The frame element may serve as a spring that provides cushioning in combination with the midsole. The configuration of the frame element, which extend onto the heel portion of the upper, leaves a lower surface of the upper exposed to permit direct contact with the midsole.
