A mailing machine is provided for processing mailpiece envelopes including a housing having a transport deck adapted to convey an envelope along a feed path and a receiving station. The mailing machine is reconfigurable to perform one of two mailpiece processing operations by alternately selecting or activating one of two mailpiece modules/assemblies. A first processing module/assembly is disposed along the feed path and is operative to moisten a glue line disposed along an envelope flap during the first mailpiece processing operation. The second processing module assembly is disposed along the feed path and is adapted to cut and open an edge of the envelope during the second mailpiece processing operation. Further, a mechanism for interchangeably receiving one of the first and second the processing modules/assemblies within the receiving station to perform the processing operations.

Reconfigurable mailing system having interchangeable mailpiece sealing and opening modules

An envelope handling device including a moistener module where the moistener module includes a reservoir assembly, a first well tank and a second well tank. The reservoir assembly includes a reservoir tank for holding a supply of reservoir water having a predetermined height; a first well tank for holding a supply of first well water, the first well tank directly coupled to the reservoir tank via a first well tank hose so that the reservoir water is capable of flowing through the first well tank hose to the first well tank and raising the first well water to the predetermined height; and a second well tank for holding a supply of second well water at a different height from the predetermined height, the second well tank coupled to the reservoir tank via a second well tank hose and a trap, the trap establishes a pressure differential between the predetermined height and a level of water within the trap; and wherein the reservoir water is capable of flowing through the second well tank hose and the trap to the second well tank and raising the second well water to the different height as air is captured within the trap to balance the pressure differential.

Mailing machine including a moistener system

The present invention provides an improvement for a document feeder comprising a feed deck, a separator assembly for separating and feeding individual documents, the separator assembly including a separator wheel disposed above the feed deck, drive structure for driving the separator wheel, and structure for adjustably positioning the separator wheel assembly to a position relative to the feed deck commensurate with the material being fed. The improvement comprises structure for pivotally coupling the document feeder to vertical frame members. The coupling structure is located at one end of the document feeder near the separator assembly. There are a pair of leg members extending below the feed deck, each of the leg members resting on a horizontal frame member at opposite sides of the document feed path. The leg members are laterally spaced so as not to interfere with documents being conveyed by the underlying document transport.

Pivoting feeder assembly for jam access

A buckle chute for folding a sheet of paper. The buckle chute includes: a first plate having a vertically extending slot; a second plate opposing the first plate and defining a paper path therewith; a paper stopping tab extending through the vertically extending slot; a paper inverting tab extending through the vertically extending slot and situated above the paper stopping tab, the inverting tab being pivotable between an operative position in the paper path and an inoperative position out of the paper path; and a lever operatively connected to the paper inverting tab and extending beyond the side edge of the first plate for pivoting the tab between the operative and inoperative positions.

Document inverter for buckle chute folder

A folding machine buckle chute with means for accessing paper jams is provided. The access means, comprising two pivotable sidewalls secured by a doubleslotted latch, allows for simple and rapid removal of jammed sheets from the buckle chute without disassembly.

Buckle chute jam access means

An accessing guide in combination with the paper path of a deck for transporting paper documents. The combination includes: a deck for supporting and transporting paper documents seriatim; and an adjustable side guide mounted on the deck for movement perpendicular to the direction of the paper path for guiding the flow of documents along the deck. The guide has a pivotable rail which can pivot away from the paper path in order to allow access to the paper path by an operator.
