One aspect of the present invention is a sprayable composition for coating pipe for protecting it from one or more of root intrusion or root growth when the coated pipe is placed underground. Such sprayable formulation includes a 2,6-dinitroaniline herbicide; a polymer pellet impregnated with a 2,6-dinitroanililne herbicide-sorbed colloidal clay; and a film-forming polymer. Another aspect is pipe coated with the dried residue of a coating of a 2,6-dinitroaniline herbicide; a polymer pellet impregnated with a 2,6-dinitroaniline herbicide-sorbed colloidal clay; and a film-forming polymer, wherein the coated pipe is protected from one or more of root intrusion or root growth when the coated pipe is placed underground.

Methods and products to protect against root intrusion and plant and root growth

A liquid operated motor assembly has an exterior housing arranged to be driven rotatably by fluid pressure. The exterior housing has a cutter at its leading end which is dimensioned and arranged to clear a path through a pipe at least as large in cross section as trailing portions of the motor assembly. The motor assembly is connected at its trailing end to radially expandable links arranged when expanded to engage the inner surface of a pipe and stabilize the position of the motor assembly and arranged when retracted to allow retrieval of the tool through a bore made by the cutter. Operation of the expanding links is accomplished by a fluid operated cylinder assembly in the same circuit as the motor whereby to be expanded when the motor is in operation. Fluid supply for the motor includes forwardly directed orifices that clean debris away from the front of the tool. The discharge outlet for the motor is located within the cutter housing so that discharged fluid cools the cutter.

Pipeline servicing tool

An elongated, flexible body member has leading and trailing end portions and is expandable by air pressure. The body member includes conduits and fittings for allowing such expansion and also has conduits and fittings capable of air testing an area of pipe sealed off by ends of the body member and also capable of discharging grout in such sealed off area. An expandable propelling head is connected to the body member by a fluid operated double acting cylinder whereby upon selected inflation and deflation of the head and operation of the cylinder the body member can be propelled in a pipe. The connection between the propelling head and the body member is flexible to allow the assembly to negotiate bends in a pipe. The body member includes a mixing chamber for mixing a grout and a catalyst therefor prior to discharge into the pipe.
