According to one aspect, the subject matter described herein includes a method for managing social interaction information. The method includes receiving first social interaction information associated with a user of a first over the top (OTT) service platform. The method also includes receiving second social interaction information associated with the user, the second social interaction information from a communications service platform distinct from the first OTT service platform. The method further includes generating, using the first social interaction information and the second social interaction information, consolidated social interaction information and providing the consolidated social interaction information to the user.

The method includes receiving a first message for initiating associations or disassociations between a first user and a second user of over the top (OTT) service platforms. The method also includes signaling the endpoints to route at least a portion of the session through a quality enhancement gateway (QEG) capable of providing the media quality enhancement processing for the session.

A service tender node functions as an intermediary between subscribers and adjunct telecommunications services from multiple service providers to facilitate negotiation of services in real-time. The service tender node includes an index of services which is maintained and employed to search for applicable services in response to a tender request generated by a subscriber. Records in the index are described with an adaptive service definition which includes standard parameters and subjective parameters. The standard parameters identify types of service pursuant to telecommunications industry standards. The subjective parameters may be specified by individual service providers in order to differentiate their services within the service type defined by the standard parameters. Services generated from a search of the index pursuant to the standard parameters may be further sorted and filtered according to a comparison between a subscriber profile and the subjective parameters.

Telecommunications service negotiation

A communications system that supports multimedia components is easily adapted to existing network elements. Voice components arriving at or coming from a user having multimedia capabilities are referred from a telephony server serving the user to a multimedia server. A determination is made as to whether the other party supports multimedia capabilities. If that determination is negative, the component is passed back to the telephony server with an indication that the session is coming from the multimedia server to avoid an infinite loop. If the determination is positive, a parallel multimedia component is established between the parties while the multimedia server remains aware of the bearer path.

Integrating multimedia capabilities with legacy networks

A transit domain is a domain in which trusted communications are generally required, and a foreign domain is one in which any number entities are associated. The users within a foreign domain will have a trusted relationship with their foreign domain. In turn, the foreign domain will establish a trusted relationship with the transit domain. The users in the foreign domains need not have a direct relationship with the transit domains. The foreign domains are connected by the transit domains, and session messages used to establish and control communication sessions between entities must pass through the transit domains to travel from one foreign domain to another. These session messages intended for or originating from a foreign domain are processed by edge control nodes in the transit domain, based on a service policy, which has been established for the foreign domain associated with the session message.

Trusted multimedia communications

In the service architecture of the invention, each service is viewed as a hierarchical arrangement of service components. At least one management agent is associated with each layer, and is used to manage and preserve the expected performance of the service components. The management agents cooperatively exchange management information regarding the service components at their layers to permit service self-management and self-healing, enabling restoration and recovery with minimum or no human intervention.
