A drum-supporting component is provided for maintaining a drum or cymbal acoustically separated from an underlying support surface. A body of the component is configured to maintain the drum separated from the underlying support thereby increasing the sound generated from the drum which is projected therefrom.

Acoustic decoupling device

A drum supporting component is provided for maintaining the legs of a drum or cymbal elevated from an underlying support surface. The elevation positioning decouples the legs from the underlying surface and increases the amount of sound generated from the drum or cymbal.

A color liquid crystal display using reflective color filters using layers of cholesteric liquid crystals is disclosed. The reflective color filters have two different center wavelengths and bandwidths per layer and are stacked in two layers to provide colored light for displays. With various numbers of layers in the stack, different polarization levels are provided. The pixels in the display of the invention are arranged such that multiple adjacent sub-pixels in a layer with the same color makes the color filters easier to manufacture.

Reflective color filters using layers of cholesteric liquid crystals with two different center wavelengths and bandwidths per layer are stacked in two layers to provide colored light for displays. With a two layer stack circularly polarized light of one handedness can be provided. With a two layer stack circulary unpolarized colored light can be provided. With a broadband polarizing filter overlapping other filters in the stack a black matrix can be provided by reflecting all colors and transmitting no light in the overlapping areas. When broadband reflective cholesteric liquid crystals are used two primary colors can be reflected in the same pixel of a display making reflective layers with two reflective portions per layer possible. Color displays having three linear sub-pixels with three primary colors or with four sub-pixels of white, blue, green, and red in a pixel with two colors in a top row and two colors on a bottom row can are made with two colors per layer in two layer stacks. The pixels in the display are arranged such that multiple adjacent sub-pixels in a layer, or row in a layer, with the same color makes the color filters easier to manufacture. Displays using these reflective color filters may have a reflective polarizer for viewing the display at wide angles without color distortion.

A liquid crystal apparatus (30) comprising a containment medium (56), a birefringent liquid crystal material (38) and a pleochroic dye (54) contained in the liquid crystal material The difference between the ordinary and extraordinary indices of refraction of the liquid crystal material is between about 0.23 and 0.30. The liquid crystal material is dispersed in plural volumes in the containment medium. A pleochroic dye may be present in the liquid crystal material in a concentration of about 0.5% to 3.0%. The apparatus has enhanced backscattering in the field-off state and enhanced light transmission in the field-on state.

A display apparatus comprising a display medium and a gain reflector disposed behind the display medium for reflecting incident light. The display medium may comprise a liquid crystal material containing a dye that conforms to the structure of the liquid crystal material and a containment medium for inducing distorted alignment of the liquid crystal material which in response to such alignment scatters and absorbs light and which response to a prescribed input reduces the amount of such scattering and absorption.

A display apparatus comprising a first liquid crystal means and a second liquid crystal means spaced from the first liquid crystal means. Means are disposed between the first and second liquid crystal means for transmitting and reflecting incident light. The first and second liquid crystal means comprise liquid crystal material containing a dye that conforms to the structure of the liquid crystal material and a containment medium for inducing distorted alignment of the liquid crystal material which in response to such alignment scatters and absorbs light and which response to a prescribed input reduces the amount of such scattering and absorption.
