A method for delivering digital cinema concurrently to a retail exhibitor and a remote theater that includes forming a digital cinema right-to-distribute contract between a content owner and a retail exhibitor. In addition, a digital cinema movie rental contract is formed between the retail exhibitor and a remote theater user. Newly released digital cinema content is delivered both to the remote theater and to the retail exhibitor. Display of the newly released digital cinema content occurs at the remote theater as early as the display of the newly released digital cinema content at the retail exhibitor.

A motion picture sound recording chromogenic photographic film element for forming non-neutral images is disclosed comprising a film support bearing at least one silver halide emulsion layer comprising at least one dye-forming coupler which forms a dye which absorbs primarily in the green or red light region of the electromagnetic spectrum upon processing with color negative developer, wherein the element does not comprise a neutral-balanced combination of cyan, magenta, and yellow dye-forming couplers. A method for forming a soundtrack image in a motion picture print film is also disclosed, comprising recording a soundtrack negative in a chromogenic soundtrack recording film as described above by exposing said film and processing said exposed film with a color developer process to form a dye soundtrack negative, and printing a soundtrack onto a negative-working motion picture print film by exposing the motion picture print film through the dye soundtrack negative and processing the exposed print film to form a positive soundtrack. In accordance with preferred embodiments of the invention, the light-sensitive emulsion layer of the sound recording film comprises green or red light-sensitive silver halide emulsion grains and a cyan or magenta dye-forming coupler in the substantial absence of yellow dye-forming coupler. In accordance with most preferred embodiments, the light-sensitive emulsion layer of the sound recording film comprises green and red light-sensitive silver halide emulsion grains and cyan and magenta dye-forming couplers in the substantial absence of yellow dye-forming coupler.

Chromogenic sound recording film

By processing color motion picture film to yield a dye-only, 'silver-less' soundtrack, an antihalation layer containing silver may be incorporated into the film without interfering with the soundtrack signal in the resulting processed film. The process results in good antihalation protection of the print film during exposure, and a simplified processing procedure which does not require special processing of the exposed soundtrack relative to the image area frames. One embodiment of the invention comprises a method for recording and processing image area frames and an optical soundtrack in a color motion picture film comprising a support bearing blue, green, and red light sensitive silver halide emulsion dye forming layers and an antihalation layer, comprising imagewise exposing said emulsion layers in accordance with desired image area frames, exposing at least one of said emulsion layers in accordance with an analog soundtrack, and processing the exposed film to yield corresponding dye images in the exposed image area frames and analog soundtrack; wherein said antihalation layer comprises a hydrophilic colloid layer containing silver, and wherein said film is processed to yield a dye-only, silverless analog soundtrack, the soundtrack region of the film not being subjected to any specialized processing treatment relative to the image area frame region.

Method for recording and processing motion picture film soundtrack

Specially designed non-uniform filters allow for the flexible alteration of the exposure profile during a fade and dissolve process in a motion picture printer. In accordance with one aspect of this invention, there is provided a system for fading and dissolving two original color record scenes together on a light sensitive material, the system comprising: a) a first color record; b) a second color record; c) a motion picture printer comprising a light source, a fader, a non-uniform filter and an exposing slit; and d) a light sensitive material onto which the first and second color records can be illuminated by means of the light source. The non-uniform filter is non-uniform in one direction thereof with respect to its ability to filter light from the light source, and is positioned so as to alter the relative intensity and/or spectral characteristics of light trasmitted to the light sensitive material as the fader is opened and closed during a fade and dissolve printing process. Another aspect of the invention relates to a process for producing a fade and dissolve motion picture image using such a non-uniform filter. Use of non-uniform filters in accordance with the invention to selectively alter the exposure profile enables a film printer to compensate for speed changes in one or more of the sensitive layers of a photosensitive material during a fade and dissolve process.
