A refractory material system for the wall of a cyclone separator in which a plurality of erosion-resistant refractory material wear blocks extend in a spaced relationship to the tubes of the water-steam walls of a cyclone separator. The wear blocks are attached to a continuous fin extending between each adjacent pair of tubes and insulating, erosion-resistant refractory material extends between the fins and the wear blocks.

Cyclone separator wall refractory material system

An erosion resistant waterwall in which a plurality of erosion resistant stud members are attached to the exposed surface of a waterwall consisting of a plurality of spaced water tubes connected together by continuous fins. The size of the stud members relative to the tubes are such that a plurality of the stud members extend around the periphery of each exposed tubes surface in a spaced relationship in a direction perpendicular to the axis of each tube. The stud members may be in the form of steel balls or small rod members attached to the exposed surface, and a ceramic sleeve can extend around the rod members.

Erosion resistant waterwall

A test apparatus can test the erosion resistance of a specimen. The apparatus has an enclosure containing in its test chamber an abrasive medium. Also included is a spindle attached to the enclosure. The spindle has an inside end adapted to hold the specimen. A motor coupled to the spindle can spin the inside end at an adjustable angular speed within the medium. Preferably, a thermal jacket can moderate temperature within the spindle apparatus. The apparatus is used to spin the specimen through the abrasive medium at a chosen speed and then measure the extent of erosion.

Erosion test apparatus

A fluidized bed heat exchanger in which an air distributor plate assembly is disposed within an enclosure for supporting a bed of particulate material. The plate assembly includes a plurality of horizontal, spaced tubes through which water is passed to cool the assembly. Air is passed from an air plenum through openings formed in the plate assembly to fluidize the particulate material. Insulation is disposed on the lower surface of the plate assembly to insulate the latter from the heat of the fluidizing air, and the upper surface of the plate assembly is insulated from the high temperatures occurring in the bed.

A closure assembly for a furnace wall in which a plug member is secured to a shell member which, in turn, is pivotally mounted to the furnace wall. The plug member is formed from a cast ceramic fiber tamping mix of bulk fiber and high temperature inorganic binders and has a relatively low density. A centrally located stepped bore extends through the plug member for receiving a rod to the interior face of the shell member. A fastening means engages the rod for securing the plug member relative to the shell member and an insert formed from the same material as the plug member is fixed in the bore hole.
