The subject pad comprises resilient layers attached to each other and spaced apart by compression members distributed with spaces between them. The compression members on one side of each layer are opposite the spaces between the compression members on the other side so that the layer portions between compression members of one layer function as beams loaded near or at their centers by compression members on the adjacent layers. The pad may be an integral part or the layers may be separate, in which case the compression members comprise mating projections from the surfaces of adjacent layers. The compression members may be ridges or columns. The projections may be shaped to mechanically interlock when mated, utilizing the resilence of the material and/or adhesive may be used to secure the attachment. In a prefered embodiment a percentage of the projections are shaped to mechanically interlock when mated, the remaining projections being simple ribs or stubs.

Shock relieving pad

The subject pad comprises resilient layers attached to each other and spaced apart by compression members distributed with spaces between them. The pad may be an integral part or the layers may be separate, in which case the compression members comprise mating projections from the surfaces of adjacent layers. The compression members may be ridges or colums. The projections may be shaped to mechanically interlock when mated, utilizing the resilience of the material and/or adhesive may be used to secure the attachment.

The spring is one piece and elliptical with the working material concentrated nearer the ends than the middle section, leaving the middle section available for deflection limiting stops and for fastening holes. A preferred material is acetal plastic. The spring can be machined, molded or cut from extrusions in widths to suit use requirements. The spring is attached to mounting structure by a fastener which passes through a hole in one leaf and is seated on the other.

Spring for floors and the like

The horseshoe comprises a spring and a wear plate. The spring has essentially parallel and flat top and bottom surfaces and is shaped in the outline of a horse's hoof in plan view. It comprises layers parallel to the top and bottom interconnected by spaced apart compression members. For the layers having compression members on both their sides, the compression members on one side are located opposite the spaces between the compression members on the other side. The structure is therefore a multiplicity of small spring elements. The spring material has a modulus of elasticity of approximately 350,000 pounds per square inch, a density of approximately 0.05 pounds per cubic inch and an allowable working stress in the range of 15,000 to 22,000 PSI. The configuration of the spring, in combination with these properties, provides a working deflection in the range of 0.3 to 0.5 inches and a spring rate in the range of 4000 to 6000 pounds per inch. The spring is attached to the hoof by conventional fasteners and techniques. The wear plate is attached to the bottom of the spring with conventional fasteners.

Shock relieving horseshoe

A coated metallic article, such as a high strength steel, that exhibits low hydrogen embrittlement carries an electrodeposited coating having a microstructure characterized by a plurality of interconnected escape channels that extend from the coating-substrate interface to the surface of the coating. Determining the presence of the escape channels as well as other microstructural features enables one to readily monitor and control plating processes to assure the production of articles that exhibit low hydrogen embrittlement. Low hydrogen embrittlement characteristics are also linked to the amount of residual hydrogen in the substrate after plating and subsequent heat treatment.

Plated structure exhibiting low hydrogen embrittlement

The spring comprises layers of resilient material connected and spaced apart by compression members. The compression members are also spaced apart and indexed so that those between one pair of layers are located opposite the spaces between the compression members between the adjacent pair of layers. Springs of various shapes and areas are cut from sheets of spring structure and the spring rates are expressed in terms of pounds per inch per square inch of spring work area. Spring rates range from 1000 to 1250 pounds per inch per square inch of spring. Work capacities range from 13 to 120 inch pounds per square inch of spring. Ratios of work capacity to weight range from about 200 for springs about 1/4 inch thick to 600 for springs 3/4 inch thick. The cavities in the springs are vented to ambient to enhance linearity and efficiency.

Spring apparatus for shoe soles and the like

A horseshoe made of resilient material having a low modulus of elasticity, low density and an allowable working stress in the range of 15,000 to 22,000 PSI. The configuration of the spring, in combination with these properties, provides a working deflection in the range of 0.3 to 0.5 of an inch under a load of 2000 pounds, i.e. a spring rate of 5000 pounds per inch, and weighing in the range of 8 to 10 ounces. The purpose of the resilience is to relieve shock loads in horses' hooves and, on a corollary basis, improve the performance of the horse. The horseshoe is a single piece having a horseshoe shaped flange to be attached to the horse's hoof, a second horseshoe shaped flange which contacts the terrain and a curved channel interconnecting the two flanges, spaced apart and parallel to each other. Protrusions on the flanges limit deflection of the flanges toward each other to keep the stresses in the spring well within the allowable range. The second flange has cutouts which provide clearance for the tools and fasteners used to attach the shoe to the hoof. A wear plate can be attached to the second flange to augment the durability and function of the shoe. The wear plate incorporates protrusions which fill in the access cutouts in the flange.

A method for producing a corrosion-resistant article exhibiting low hydrogen embrittlement, comprising electroplating the article with a zinc-nickel alloy. The zinc-nickel alloy is plated from an aqueous acidic plating solution containing zinc, nickel, an electrolyte in the form of a soluble ammonium salt, and a polyoxyalkylated nonionic surfactant. The bath can also contain an anionic surfactant, a buffer such as boric acid, and a brightener.

Zinc-nickel electroplated article and method for producing the same

A method of coating polymeric substrates, and in particular vinyl coverings, to rennovate and enhance the appearance of the substrate. The coating composition employed to restore and enhance the substrate, preferably comprises an acrylic polymer, benzotriazole, and a solvent therefor. The composition can also be used as a sealant to close small gaps or openings.

Protective, decorative and restorative coating composition and method

Plated high strength steel articles having a metallic plated coating exhibit high corrosion resistance and low hydrogen reembrittlement characteristics when an acrylic polymeric coating, such as a methyl methacrylate polymer is applied to the aritcle. A corrosion inhibitor and adhesion promoter such as benzotriazole and a leveling agent such as an alkyd polymer can be incorporated with the acrylic polymer in minor proportions to further enhance the corrosion resistance characteristics of the coating. A benzotriazole-containing acrylic polymer formulation also enhances the corrosion resistance characteristics of an unplated metal substrate.
