A negative pressure, thermal energy device has an enclosure that receives a patient's body part. The body part is positioned in the enclosure and contacts a thermal energy contacting surface. The thermal energy contacting surface transfers its thermal energy to the body part. While in the enclosure, the body part is also exposed to a negative pressure to cause vasodilation. The combination of the vasodilation and the thermal energy transfer alter the patient's body core temperature. To ensure the body part remains in contact with the thermal contacting surface, the enclosure has a portion thereof that moves when negative pressure is in the enclosure. When the negative pressure is applied, the deforming enclosure material is pulled toward the body part to provide a positive pressure on the body part that ensures the body part effectively contacts the thermal energy contacting surface.

A medical instrument device interconnection system decreases the vibrational effects on a hospital pole. The medical device is contained in a case and the case has a first clamping member, a first biasing apparatus, a second clamping member, a second biasing apparatus, and a pole receiving trench. Each clamping member has a preferred position, an attachment position and a maximum tension position. In the preferred position the respective biasing members position the respective clamping member's distal end as close to each other as possible which inhibits a conventional hospital pole from entering the pole receiving trench. To obtain the maximum tension position, the person positioning the medical instrument device on the hospital pole aligns the pole receiving trench with the hospital pole so the hospital pole contacts the clamping members' exterior surface in the preferred position. The person raises the device in relation to the pole which causes the clamping members to rotate and expose the pole receiving trench. Once the hospital pole enters the pole receiving trench the respective biasing apparatus on each clamping member has the respective clamping members revert toward the preferred position. The preferred position cannot be obtained because the hospital pole in the pole receiving trench inhibits the clamping members from reverting to that position. Instead the clamping members are in the attachment position after the medical instrument device is lowered a little in relation to the hospital pole to obtain the maximum force in the attachment position. Collectively the biasing apparatuses through the clamping members in the attachment position provide more force to the hospital pole than the weight of the medical instrument device. That way the medical instrument device remains attached to the hospital pole and due to the flexible biasing apparatuses the device's vibration is suppressed while attached to the hospital pole.

The present invention involves a patient support system. The support system has a fluid bladder and a container. The container has an air pump, a manifold and a CPR dump system. The CPR dump system has a manifold aperture, a plug positioned in the manifold's aperture, a rod interconnected to the plug and protruding from the container's opening, a magnetized alignment apparatus, and a magnetized stop mechanism. The magnetized stop mechanism fastens to the rod and magnetically attaches to the magnetized alignment apparatus which insures the plug is lodged in the manifold's aperture. When a user wants to expeditiously deflate the inflatable fluid bladder, the user pulls on the distal end with sufficient force to detach the magnetized stop mechanism from the magnetized alignment apparatus thereby the plug dislodges from the manifold aperture and allows the inflatable fluid bladder to deflate within a predetermined time frame.

The present invention is directed to a mattress overlay being an inflatable body support formed from a pair of plastic sheets joined together to form a non-inflatable periphery. The non-inflatable periphery defines an air pressurizable chamber therebetween. The chamber provides an air cushion for supporting a person positioned thereatop that dissipates at least pressure to decrease the onset of pressure sores and ulcers. The periphery has a distal end, a proximal end, a first side and a second side. The improvement of the present invention relates to the corner strap system. There is at least one non-inflatable corner strap system that extends from at least one end of the periphery. A center section, at least two side sections positioned on opposite sides of the center section, and a hold down section having at least two elbow-shaped slits or perforations positioned between the center section and each side section form the first non-inflatable corner strap system. Each perforation and slit defines a hold down. Each hold down on each side of the center section is a distinct distance from the center section. The various combinations of hold downs can be used to secure the mattress overlay onto various sized and styles of mattresses.

The present invention relates to a protective and pressure normalizing device for a body extremity, having a topside, an underside and two other sides. The device has, at a minimum, an support member and a joint aperture. In each embodiment, the support member has a lower portion, an intermediate portion, and an upper portion. The lower, intermediate, and upper portions, each contact at least a part of the body extremity, except the joint of the body extremity.

Heel care device and method

A device designed to interconnect with an inflatable thermia blanket. The device conveys a medium into the blanket, which applies an internal pressure to the device, and has at least two temperature settings for controlling the temperature of the medium and a pressure sensing apparatus. The pressure sensing apparatus measures the internal pressure. And when the measurement exceeds a predetermined level of internal pressure then any one of the at least two temperature settings is useable. Otherwise, when the measurement does not exceed the predetermined level of internal pressure, the device will either convey the medium at a predetermined temperature setting, which can include shutting the device down.
