A method of measuring a gas concentration is described. The method comprises illuminating, with a light source, a volume of space that includes a gas and measuring, with a detector, a first illumination level of the volume of space. The method further comprises determining, via a processor, a gas concentration in the volume of space based on the measured first illumination level, where the volume of space is configured to be in fluid communication with a gas recirculation flow path including a catalyst, the catalyst configured to substantially remove the gas from the volume of space.

This disclosure is directed to methods, computer program products, and systems for calibrating one or more remote sensing devices in an environment. The disclosed technology relates to a calibration device configured to determine measurement data within an environment. The calibration device may transmit the measurement values, or other calibration data items, to a remote sensing device via a wireless link while the remote sensing device stays with a structure in which the remote sensing device is commissioned to operate. In response to receiving the calibration data items, the remote sensing device may adjust one or more settings of the remote sensing device in order to satisfy a calibration threshold.

An environmental control system (ECS) having contaminants in supply air that flows into an environment includes an outside air contaminant component that senses contaminants in outside air, wherein the outside air contaminant component is upstream of the environment, A recirculated air contaminant component is provided and that senses contaminants in recirculated air supplied by the environment, wherein the recirculated air contaminant component is downstream of the environment. A voltage supply provides a non-linear variable voltage to at least one of the components. A controller is in communication with the components and the voltage supply; wherein, upon a measured resistance, from at least one of the components, that exceeds a threshold, the controller varies at least one of an outside air flow and a recirculated air flow in the ECS.

An Environmental Control System includes sensors, an air purification subsystem, and a controller in communication with the sensors and air purification subsystem. The sensors detect contaminants in outside air supplied through engine and APU bleeds or other air sources including ground supplies and electric compressors, contaminants in recirculated air, particulates in outside air, carbon dioxide in recirculated air, temperature in an environment, and pressure in an environment. These sensed parameters are compared against thresholds. Based on the comparisons, changes to the outside air and/or recirculated air are made.

An Environmental Control System includes a sensor, an air purification subsystem, and a controller in communication with the sensor and air purification subsystem. The sensor detects a contaminant in the air and generates a contaminant signal. The controller compares the contaminant signal to a predicted sensory response threshold. When the contaminant signal reaches the predicted sensory response threshold, the controller commands the air purification subsystem to alter a condition in the air.

An environmental control system (ECS) having particulates in air therein includes a sensor, an air purification subsystem, and a controller in communication with the sensor and air purification subsystem. The sensor detects particulates in the air, and generates a particulate concentration signal. The controller: compares the particulate concentration signal to a predicted particulate concentration threshold that is based on one of a probability of odor detection, a probability of sensory irritancy detection, and a combination thereof. When the particulate concentration signal reaches the predicted particulate concentration threshold, the controller commands the air purification subsystem to alter a condition in the air containing the particulates.

Method to use ultrafine particulate matter detection and measurement to control air supply system contaminant delivery to the aircraft cabin environment

Embodiments of an electromagnetic coil assembly are provided, as are methods for the manufacture of an electromagnetic coil assembly. In one embodiment, the method for manufacturing an electromagnetic coil assembly includes the steps of providing a braided aluminum lead wire having a first end portion and a second end portion, brazing the first end portion of the braided aluminum lead wire to a first electrically-conductive interconnect member, and winding a magnet wire into an electromagnetic coil. The second end portion of the braided aluminum lead wire is joined to the magnet wire after the step of brazing.

High temperature electromagnetic coil assemblies including brazed braided lead wires

Embodiments of a high temperature electromagnetic coil assembly are provided, as are embodiments of a method for fabricating such a high temperature electromagnetic coil assembly. In one embodiment, the high temperature electromagnetic coil assembly includes a coiled anodized aluminum wire and an electrically-insulative, high thermal expansion ceramic body in which the coiled anodized aluminum wire is embedded. The electrically-insulative, high thermal expansion ceramic body has a coefficient of thermal expansion greater than 10 parts per million per degree Celsius and less than the coefficient of thermal expansion of the coiled anodized aluminum wire.

High temperature electromagnetic coil assemblies

Substantially defect-free titanium aluminide components and methods are provided for manufacturing the same from articles formed by consolidation processes. The method includes providing an intermediate article comprised of a titanium aluminide alloy and formed by a consolidation process. The intermediate article is encapsulated with an aluminum-containing encapsulation layer. The intermediate article is compacted after the encapsulation step. A substantially defect-free titanium aluminide component comprises a compacted three-dimensional article comprised of titanium aluminide and formed by a consolidation process and an aluminum-containing encapsulation layer on at least one surface of the compacted three-dimensional article. The aluminum-containing encapsulation layer comprises an aluminide material, MCrAlY wherein M is cobalt, nickel, or a combination of cobalt and nickel, or TiAlCr.

Embodiments of a high temperature electromagnetic coil assembly are provided, as are embodiments of a method for fabricating such a high temperature electromagnetic coil assembly. In one embodiment, the method includes the steps of applying a high thermal expansion ceramic coating over an anodized aluminum wire, coiling the coated anodized aluminum wire around a support structure, and curing the high thermal expansion ceramic coating after coiling to produce an electrically insulative, high thermal expansion ceramic body in which the coiled anodized aluminum wire is embedded.

Methods for fabricating high temperature electromagnetic coil assemblies

A three-wire transformer position sensor is provided that includes an excitation coil and an output coil. The excitation coil is adapted to be electrically excited with an excitation signal, and has a first end and a second end. The output coil includes a first coil and a second coil and is inductively coupled to the excitation coil upon electrical excitation thereof the excitation coil. The first end of the first coil is electrically connected to the second end of the second coil and to the second end of the excitation coil, and the second end of the first coil is electrically connected to the first end of the second coil. The output coil is configured, when it is balanced and the excitation coil is being electrically excited, to supply a null output signal.
