Displacement of the holding tongs, which is caused by the movement of the carriage results in a movement of the adhesion reducing sheet in the direction toward the front sections of the tong arms at the same velocity in opposite directions. Without the panel moving, the release movement of the holding tongs causes an adhesive panel of material disposed between the tong arms to be moved out of the tongs and to be released.

The hydrostatic bearings constitute a force-transmitting arrangement between the plungers and the press plate and permit a tilting motion of the plungers relative to the press plate. Guide assemblies are mounted at the end of each power cylinder for sealingly and tiltably guiding the plunger.

A hydraulic press has a generally horizontal press plate vertically movably supported in a press stand; a hydraulic press cylinder unit mounted in the press stand above the press plate and having a power cylinder and a piston rod longitudinally slidably received in the power cylinder and extending from the power cylinder to the press plate; and a hydrostatic floating bearing assembly arranged on a surface of the press plate. The lower terminus of the piston rod projects into a hydraulic chamber of the bearing assembly. The latter includes an annular body surrounding the piston rod terminus and being coaxial therewith; and a sealing ring positioned between the annular body and the surface of the press plate. The sealing ring sealingly engages the annular body and the press plate surface and has a working inner diameter which is smaller than the diameter of the lower terminus of the piston rod.

A hydraulic press includes a press plate mounted for executing working strokes and return strokes; a hydraulic countersupport braking cylinder supported at an end zone of the working stroke for engaging the press plate at an end portion of the working stroke to cause deceleration of the press plate by the hydraulic countersupport braking cylinder; and a hydraulic shock absorber connected between the press plate and the hydraulic countersupport braking cylinder. The hydraulic shock absorber is arranged for compression from an expanded state by the press plate in an end zone of the working strokes. The hydraulic shock absorber has a shock absorber chamber containing hydraulic fluid; a throttle for setting a braking force in the shock absorber chamber to a magnitude smaller than the braking force of the hydraulic countersupport braking cylinder; and a resetting arrangement for returning the shock absorber into its expanded state.

An apparatus and process is provided for charging, pressing and removing laminated sheets from a heat press. An unpressed laminate is placed on a conveyor tray which is inserted into the heat press from one end as a suction carrier is inserted from the other. The suction carrier removes a pressed laminate as the conveyor tray positions one end of the laminate on the top of the suction carrier. A belt mechanism on the top of the suction carrier, together with the conveyor tray, assists in positioning the entire laminate on a lower hot plate of the heat press at substantially the same time. The suction carrier and conveyor tray are simultaneously removed from the heat press so that the pressing action can occur.
