A method for grinding colorant agglomerates with a grinding medium comprising a Group IIIB and/or a lanthanide element and a Group IVB oxide. The grinding medium has a grain size of less than about 1.35 microns, and results in the production of substantially pure colorant concentrates.

Method for grinding colorants

A paper or transparency receiving toner to be fixed by heat has an ionomeric resin on its outer surface. For universal application, the outer layer is a blend of non-ionomeric resin, such as styrene acrylate copolymer, and an ionomer, which permits the material of the toner to molecularly intermingle with the blend during heat fixing. Irradiation raises the melting point of the ionomeric resin to prevent delamination. The resulting printing is strongly bonded to the substrate and is of excellent quality.

Heat fixing paper or sheet

The invention relates to an aqueous ink composition for use in ink jet printers comprising an aqueous carrier; a pigment; and a copolymer comprising a hydrophilic segment having an acidic function group, and a hydrophobic segment having a hydrolytically stable siloxyl substituent.

Ink composition

The invention relates to polymeric dispersants used in formulating aqueous ink compositions, as well as inks containing those dispersants. The dispersants are graft copolymers comprising a hydrophilic polymeric segment, a hydrophobic polymeric segment incorporating a hydrolytically-stable siloxyl substituent, and a stabilizing segment, such as a reactive surfactant macromer, a protective colloid macromer, or a non-siloxyl hydrophobic monomer. The inks made with these dispersants show excellent stability, print characteristics, water-fastness, light-fastness, optical density, and in-use maintenance characteristics.

Pigmented inks with polymeric dispersants

The invention relates to polymeric dispersants used in formulating aqueous ink compositions, as well as inks containing those dispersants. The dispersants are graft copolymers comprising a hydrophilic polymeric segment, a hydrophobic polymeric segment incorporating a hydrolytically-stable siloxyl substituent, and a stabilizing segment, such as a reactive surfactant macromer, a protective colloid macromer, or a non-siloxyl hydrophobic monomer. The inks made with these dispersants show excellent stability, print characteristics, water-fastness, optical density, and in-use maintenance characteristics.

Polymeric dispersants for pigmented inks

An aqueous jet ink of water, dissolved dyes and a surfactant of R--N(C.sub.2 H.sub.4 O).sub.x (C.sub.2 H.sub.4 O).sub.y H, where x+y is from 5 to 25, with x and y each at least 2, and R is alkyl or oxygen containing. The static surface tension is less than 40 dynes/cm while the dynamic surface tension is about 65 dynes/cm. Satellites and splatter in thermal drop on demand printing are greatly reduced, and drop misdirection is reduced.

Jet ink with amine surfactant

Trimers of C.sub.9 to C.sub.11 alpha olefins are useful as carrier fluid in liquid toner for electrophotography. Their use practically eliminates air pollution, oil slicks when liquid toned prints are placed on a surface and a halo effect.

Carrier fluid for liquid electrophotographic toner

A liquid toner for electrostatic imaging having 65-90 percent by weight of solids of terpolymer of about in the weight ratio of about 60/33/7 of styrene, n-butyl acrylate and methacrylic acid, respectively; 10-30 percent by weight of solid of pigment, an ionic or zwitterionic charge director, 1-5 percent by weight aluminum tristearate, and the remainder mineral oil as a vehicle.

Liquid electrostatic toners with terpolymer resin

A formula and process to manufacture a lift-off correctable film ribbon in which the transfer layer is cured by an electron beam. The radiation curing eliminates solvents and their associated handling and pollution problems. The polymerizable ingredients are acrylic acrylate and N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone. The formula also includes powdered polyperfluoroethylene, mineral oil, and carbon black.
