A method and apparatus for improving the quality of an image that is developed by a liquid carrier is disclosed. The invention relates to image blotting and is directed to reducing disruptive forces on the wet image during blotting. The invention relates to the conditions under which liquid carrier is removed from the surface of an image supportable member.

Apparatus and method for non-interactive electrophotographic development

An apparatus and method that insures an even distribution of liquid in an aquatron charging device across the entire length of the device. This enables uniform charging across the width of the photoreceptor. The present invention fills and pressurizes a porous tube with a liquid. The liquid evenly exudes from the pores along the entire length of the porous tube. A hydrophilic liquid retentive foam which contacts the photoreceptor surface is wrapped snugly around the tube. The conductivity and overall rate of dispensation of liquid is controlled by the pressure differential across the porous tube.

An device for applying an electrical charge to a member to be charged such as a charge retentive surface in an electrostatographic printing apparatus, including a multi-contact point conductive charging device positioned in contact with the member to be charged. In operation, the charging device of the present invention permits generation of a charge potential on the photoreceptor significantly greater than the Paschen threshold voltage, while avoiding air breakdown.

Carrier composition and processes thereof

An apparatus for applying an electrical charge to a charge retentive surface by transporting ions through an electrically biased ionically conductive liquid and transferring the ions to the member to be charged across the liquid/charge retentive surface interface. The electrically biased ionically conductive liquid medium is brought into contact with the photoreceptor by placing a hydrophilic material imbibed with the ionically conductive liquid in contact with the photoreceptor. The hydrophilic material is partially surrounded by a pair of elongated blade elements as well as a pair of end seal elements for providing a sealed structure for containing the hydrophilic material A voltage is applied to the ionically conductive liquid medium while translating or rotating the charge retentive surface past the ionically conductive medium, thereby enabling the transfer of ions to the charge retentive surface A support blade may be provided for urging the donor blade into contact with the photoreceptor. In addition, a wiper blade may be provided for removing any residual liquid from the surface of the charge retentive surface as may have been transferred thereto by the ionically conductive liquid. A rubber gasket may also be provided for additional sealing of the charging apparatus.

An apparatus for applying an electrical charge to a charge retentive surface by transporting ions through an ionically conductive liquid and transferring the ions to the member to be charged across the liquid/charge retentive surface interface. The ionically conductive liquid is contacted with the charge retentive surface for depositing ions onto the charge retentive surface via a wetted donor blade supported within a conductive housing, wherein the housing is coupled to an electrical power supply for applying an electrical potential to the ionically conductive liquid. In one specific embodiment, the charging apparatus includes a support blade for urging the donor blade into contact with the charge retentive surface and a wiping blade for wiping any liquid from the surface of the charge retentive surface as may have been transferred to the surface at the donor blade/charge retentive surface interface.

Ionically conductive liquid charging apparatus

An apparatus for fusing images to a sheet. A fuser device is provided using a transparent fusing roll having an internal heating device which focuses the energy to a narrow area of the roll adjacent the nip formed with a pressure roll. A transparent fuser roll is used in a pressure nip fusing system to take advantage of the quick response of a focused lamp system while at the same time yielding the desirable image quality attributes of the pressure nip in two roll fusing. The focused lamp is completely enclosed and the heated region of the paper is within the nip contact region so there exists no possibility of igniting the paper. A lateral temperature smoothing device, or leveling roll, is also provided to maintain a fairly uniform temperature axially across the fuser roll. This is particularly useful for a wide fuser roll, i.e., 17 inches, through which narrower paper, i.e., 11 or 14 inches, is passing to prevent the ends of the fuser roll which do not contact the paper from overheating. A quick start up from cold start is possible so that no standby power is required.

Rapid wake up fuser

An apparatus for applying an electrical charge to a charge retentive surface by transporting ions through an ionically conductive liquid and transferring the ions to the member to be charged across the liquid/charge retentive surface interface. The ionically conductive liquid is contacted with the charge retentive surface for depositing ions onto the charge retentive surface via a wetted donor blade supported within a mechanically sealable housing adapted to permit movement of the wetted donor blade from an operative position in contact with the charge retentive surface, to a nonoperative position stored within the housing to prevent loss of the ionically conductive liquid in its liquid or vapor form so as to extend the functional life of the apparatus. In one specific embodiment, a wiper blade may be provided for removing any liquid droplets from the surface of the photoreceptor as may have been transferred at the donor blade/charge retentive surface interface.

A device for applying an electrical charge to a charge retentive surface by transporting ions in a fluid media and transferring the ions to the member to be charged across the fluid media/charge retentive surface interface. The fluid media is positioned in contact with a charge retentive surface for depositing ions onto the charge retentive surface. In one specific embodiment, the fluid media is a ferrofluid material wherein a magnet is utilized to control the position of the fluid media, which, in turn, can be utilized to selectively control the activation of the charging process.
