Superheated steam from a generator () proximate a well () is delivered through an output pipe () that communicates through a dual entry wellhead () with downhole steam piping () extending into the well (). Steam is delivered at approximatelyPSIG over the frictional and other losses encountered from the surface to the steam piping outlet (). Oil is extracted through production tubing () passing through wellhead (). Production tubing () and steam delivery piping () are secured in parallel relationship by clamps (). The production tubing () communicates with a lift pump, and the steam piping () is terminated generally at a midpoint of the production tubing (), several feet above the lift pump. A thermocouple () is placed approximately two feet below the end of the steam piping ().

Method and apparatus for the downhole injection of superheated steam

Modularized, superheated steam generators comprise a steam module (), a thermocouple module (), and an electrode module () assembled within a containment enclosure (). The multi-stage steam module () comprises a plurality of first stage pressure vessels () surrounding and feeding a second stage pressure vessel (). The steam module () is coaxially surrounded by insulation () disposed within a cylindrical shroud (). The electrode module () radiantly heats the steam module with resistive heating elements (). A multi-stage, superheated steam generator for crude oil recovery comprises a plurality of radially spaced-apart first stage electric heating tanks that peripherally surround an inner, second stage electric steam tank. The steam tanks are secured within casing by a slack accommodating mounting comprising a downwardly projecting stub received within a rigid, tubular expansion sockets secured beneath each steam tank. A plurality of serpentine, electric resistive heating elements abut each steam tank. The elements have loop portions proximate the bottoms of each steam tank and vertical portions abutting each tank periphery. First stage tanks output steam to a manifold system that outputs to the second stage heater.
