A portable alternating current (AC) power adapter system for a plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) having a high voltage (HV) battery system and configured for bi-directional charging includes a charging connector including a first 240 volts AC (VAC) signal circuit, a second 240 VAC signal circuit, a 120 VAC ground circuit, and a proximity circuit comprising a resistor, the proximity circuit being configured to wake-up the PEV when the charging cable is connected to the plug-in charging port, and a charging power panel electrically coupled to the charging connector and including a charge plug port connected to the first and second 240 VAC signal circuits and the 120 VAC ground circuit and configured to be connected to a 120 VAC or 240 VAC external load, and a switching relay connected to the proximity circuit and configured to transition on/off to disable/enable exporting power from the HV battery system.

Portable plug-in electric vehicle alternating current power adapter and method of use

A system and method is provided for preventing disengagement between an electrical plug and a charge port on an electric vehicle. One or more projections are disposed on the electric vehicle. The projection has an extended locked position and a retracted unlocked position. An actuator selectively extends and retracts the projection between the locked and unlocked positions. When the projection is in the locked position, the projection engages the plug and prevents disengagement of the plug and the port.

Method and system for preventing disengagement between an electrical plug and a charge port on an electric vehicle

A method of removing moisture from a fuel cell stack. The presence of liquid water in a fuel cell stack is especially undesirable should the temperature drop below freezing since the structures within the fuel cell are subject to degradation. One method includes measuring the temperature in the vicinity of a fuel cell vehicle when the fuel cell vehicle has been shut down and measuring the time elapsed since fuel cell vehicle shut off, and then flowing a moisture-removing medium through the fuel cell when the ambient temperature drops to a predetermined temperature and a time delay condition is satisfied. The moisture-removing medium is flowed through the fuel cell for a sufficient time to remove a sufficient amount of the water to inhibit degradation by freezing of water. A system which implements the method of the present invention is also provided.

Temperature-based vehicle wakeup strategy to initiate fuel cell freeze protection

A method of removing moisture from a fuel cell stack is provided. The presence of liquid water in a fuel cell stack is undesirable should the temperature drop below freezing since the structures within the fuel cell are subject to degradation and potentially damage by ice formation. The method of the invention comprises measuring the temperature in the vicinity of a fuel cell vehicle when the fuel cell vehicle has been shut down, and then flowing a moisture-removing medium through the fuel cell when the ambient temperature drops to a predetermined temperature. The moisture-removing medium is flowed through the fuel cell for a sufficient time to remove a sufficient amount of the water in the fuel cell so that the fuel cell is not degraded by freezing of water. The present invention also provides a fuel cell water removing system which implements the method of the present invention.
