A media-isolated pressure and force sensor is provided utilizing a deformable solid as a coupling mechanism for transmitting a received external pressure to the surface of a pressure sensing diaphragm. An example media-isolated pressure and force sensor may include a pressure sensing diaphragm that is coupled to a substrate of the media-isolated pressure sensor and a deformable solid. The deformable solid may be configured to deform so as to substantially cover a sensing surface of the pressure sensing diaphragm to create a barrier between the pressure sensing diaphragm and a measured media. In addition, the deformable solid may fluidly couple the measured media to the pressure sensing diaphragm such that in an instance in which a force is applied to the deformable solid by the measured media the force is transmitted to the pressure sensing diaphragm.

Pre-formed solid as coupling mechanism in media-isolated pressure sensors

A fluid flow sensing apparatus and method for detecting pressure and the presence of bubbles within a fluid tube. The flow sensor comprises a housing configured to receive a portion of the tube and to house the pressure sensor and the ultrasonic transmitter. The pressure sensor is positioned adjacent the tube and is configured to receive a pressure sensor signal, which correlates to a detected pressure differential within the tube. An internal controller transmits a drive signal to the ultrasonic transmitter, which emits ultrasonic waves through a portion of the tube and to the pressure sensor. The pressure sensor receives both the ultrasonic waves and a pressure sensor signal, and subsequently transmits an output signal to the internal controller. In the presence of a pressure differential or a bubble within the tube, the output signal will exhibit a DC shift or a distortion of its signal characteristics, respectively.

Fluid flow sensor

Example systems, apparatuses and methods are disclosed for sensing a force applied by an external source in a fluid monitoring tube. An example system comprises a force sensing device and signal conditioning circuitry configured to be electrically coupled to the force sensing device. The example system further comprises a housing configured to enclose the force sensing device and the signal conditioning circuitry. The housing comprises a snap structure configured to attach the housing to a base plate and retain the force sensing device and the signal conditioning circuitry in the housing.

Noninvasive blood pressure sensor

The load cell for measuring a force in both push and pull includes a body assembly having a body element defining a measurement chamber with a closed end and an opposite open end, a protruding member positioned within the measurement chamber and extending from the closed end toward the open end. The load cell also includes a base assembly secured at the open end of the body element, including a base element; and a sense die attached to the base element and aligned with the protruding member, where a top surface of the sense die supports a Wheatstone bridge circuit configured to generate a signal based on a force exerted by the protruding member on the sense die. The body element, the protruding member and the base element are integrally formed from a common material which has a CTE close to the CTE of the sense die.

Load cell

A micro pressure sensor includes a sense die mounted on a substrate, a ring structure encircling the sense die, and a silicone material is overmolded to an exterior of the ring structure to form a seal with the ring structure and fills an interior of the ring structure. The ring structure has one or more legs at bottom side, which are snap fitted to the substrate through mating holes such that the ring structure encircles the sense die; and a top surface of the silicone material receives the external pressure and transmits the external pressure to the sense surface of the sense die to generate an output signal on the sense die, wherein a processor converts the output signal into a pressure reading. The pressure-transmitting media transmits a received external pressure to the sense surface of the sense die to generate an output signal from the sense die, wherein a processor converts the output signal into a pressure reading.

Micro-molded fluid pressure sensor housing

A pressure reading assembly including a housing defining a conduit configured to transmit bodily fluid therethrough and a receiving tube having a first opening and an inner cylindrical surface. The pressure reading assembly further includes a sensing apparatus which includes a sensor disposed on a substrate and an engagement member including a generally columnar sealing member configured to engage an inner cylindrical surface of a receiving tube within the housing connected to the substrate about the sensor. The sealing member defines an axial bore extending from a proximal end to a distal end and includes an outer sealing surface defining one or more engaging elements configured to non-adhesively engage the inner cylindrical surface of the receiving tube to resist removal of the sensor assembly so that a pre-sterilized sensor assembly can be removed from a clean sealed packaging and joined directly with the housing.

Radial seal for disposable force sensor

Apparatus and associated methods relate to a compact gas sensor (CGS) including a housing with a central stepped cavity with one or more first lead contact(s) forming a portion of a base plane in a bottom of the cavity and one or more second lead contact(s) forming a portion of a stepped plane higher than the base plane, the cavity sized to receive a chemically based stack of material made up of a bottom diffusion electrode layer, a middle electrolyte gel layer, and a top diffusion electrode layer. The bottom diffusion electrode layer is in electrical contact with the first lead contact(s). The top diffusion electrode layer electrically couples to the second lead contact(s) via an overlaying micro electromechanical system (MEMS) element layer with conductive coating. In an illustrative example, the CGS may provide gas sensing in small spaces.

A force sensor may comprise a sense die comprising a top part and a bottom part. Generally, the top part may comprise a first surface and a second surface, and the bottom part may comprise a first surface for direct contact with a substrate. Typically, the bottom part may be formed by removing a portion of the material of the sense die around the edges of a first face of the sense die. Typically, adhesive may replace the portion of the sense die material removed from the edges of the first face of the sense die. Thus, the adhesive may secure the first surface of the bottom part of the sense die directly to the substrate without serving as an interface between the bottom part of the sense die and the substrate.

A force sensor includes a leadframe comprising a plurality of electrically conductive leads, a sense die coupled to the leadframe, and an encapsulant disposed over at least a portion of the leadframe and the sense die. The sense die is electrically coupled to the plurality of leads, and the plurality of leads extends from the encapsulant.

Low cost overmolded leadframe force sensor with multiple mounting positions

Systems, apparatuses, and methods are disclosed for sensing a force applied by an external source. An example system comprises a substrate comprising a plurality of electrical contact pads disposed on a first surface of the substrate. The system further comprises a force sensing device disposed on a second surface of the substrate, the second surface opposite the first surface. The system further comprises a housing disposed on the second surface of the substrate. The housing defines an aperture that provides a common coupling interface. The common coupling interface provides a common path for the force to be transmitted to the force sensing device either through a first coupling or a second coupling different from the first coupling.

Miniature size force sensor with multiple coupling technology

A pressure sensor assembly having a printed circuit board (PCB) with a pressure sensor mounted on the PCB, a side wall engaging the PCB, a membrane, a cavity defined by the membrane, the side wall and the PCB, and a gel or liquid filling the cavity. The pressure sensor assembly may include a fill-hole extending into the cavity through which the cavity may be filled with the gel or liquid. The fill-hole may extend through one or both of the PCB and/or the side wall. The cavity is defined in part by a septum that allows a needle to pierce the septum for filling the cavity with the gel or liquid. A method of forming the pressure sensor assembly may include filling a cavity of the pressure sensor assembly with a gel or liquid through a fill-hole and curing the gel or liquid once in the cavity.
