Certain aspects relate to systems and techniques for an orthopedic treatment system. In one aspect, the system includes a body unit configured to attach to an orthopedic bone plate, an electromagnetic field emitter positioned within the body unit, the electromagnetic field emitter configured to project an electromagnetic field at a therapeutic frequency for a therapeutic duration. The system may further include an internal power source positioned within the body unit, the internal power source configured to provide electrical current to the electromagnetic field emitter. The system may also include a receiving coil positioned within the body unit, the receiving coil configured to receive power from an external power source, the external power source positioned outside the body unit.

Orthopedic treatment device with electromagnetic field generator

A joint prosthesis includes first and second articulated corresponding joint components implantable within a body of a patient, wherein the corresponding joint components have corresponding surfaces that are relatively displaceable with respect to each other over a predefined functional range of motion of the corresponding joint components. The corresponding joint components each comprise one or more magnetic elements creating gradient magnetic fields having relatively strongest and weakest field areas over different portions of each of the corresponding surfaces, wherein the gradient magnetic fields are strongest in attraction at positions of the corresponding surfaces which align when the corresponding surfaces are at a boundary of the predefined functional range of motion, and deter joint dislocation by deterring relative movement of the corresponding surfaces beyond the boundary.

Magnetic joint replacement

A medical device includes an orthopedic fixation device and an electromagnetic field emitter carried by the fixation device. The device preferably further includes a power source for powering the electromagnetic field emitter, which may be implanted in the human body with the fixation device and the electromagnetic field emitter. The power source may be a battery.

Orthopedic fixation device with magnetic field generator

A prosthesis including a magnetic implant approximating the size of a bone to be replaced; a first magnetic bone implant securable to a first bone adjacent the bone to be replaced; and a second magnetic bone implant securable to a second bone adjacent the bone to be replaced. Each of the first and second magnetic bone implants have a magnetic relationship with the magnetic implant. A method of reconstructing a wrist includes removing a patient's scaphoid to create a void. The scaphoid has a plurality of adjacent bones, each of the adjacent bones comprising a surface generally facing the void. The surface of at least two of the adjacent bones is prepared by affixing a magnetic element thereto and a magnetic scaphoid implant is inserted into the void. A magnetic relationship exists between the magnetic elements and the magnetic scaphoid implant.

Bone prosthesis for maintaining joint operation in complex joints

A method for fixation of a fracture of a bone having an intramedullary canal. An intramedullary rod is inserted into the intramedullary canal of the bone, wherein the intramedullary rod includes at least one proximal hole and at least one distal hole. Proximal and distal screws or pegs are inserted through the bone and through the proximal and distal holes in the rod, wherein the proximal and the distal screws or pegs are headless screws or pegs and are selected to have a size and are inserted through the proximal and distal holes in the rod such that the screws or pegs do not extend substantially beyond an exterior surface of the bone. Further described are apparatus and a kit for intramedullary fixation of fractures of bones of the hand. The methods, apparatus and kits of the invention are advantageously designed for percutaneous placement of intramedullary rods into the intramedullary canal of metacarpal or phalanx bones of the hand to stabilize fractures, and in particular in the proximal or middle phalanx bones of the hand. Rotational control is provided by locking screws or pegs through the rod, also placed percutaneously. Specific alignment jigs, drills, screw drivers and equipment may be used for placement of the rod and screws, wherein the rod and screws will stabilize the fracture.

Applicable device for healing injuries with magnetic fields

The scaphoid has a plurality of adjacent bones, each of the adjacent bones comprising a surface generally facing the void. The surface of at least two of the adjacent bones is prepared by affixing a magnetic element thereto and a magnetic scaphoid implant is inserted into the void. A magnetic relationship exists between the magnetic elements and the magnetic scaphoid implant.
