An interconnection providing multiple electrical interconnections at a fine pitch can be formed in a pluggable and unpluggable form using multiple connector channels and rows of contact elements in each of a plug and socket. The contacts may be a mixture of active and passive contacts. Furthermore, a contact support structure may provide improve spring characteristics in the contacts. The contacts may be formed in a number of configurations including vertical staggering, alternating or offset patterns, mulit-level tail exit designs, rotated contacts, staggered or nonalign retention features and dedicated power contacts. Anchors or permanent latches, separable latches, and polarization keys may also be utilized. Alternative embodiments may include straddlemount and attachment clip embodiments.

Electrical interconnection system and device

An interconnection providing multiple electrical interconnections at a fine pitch can be formed in a pluggable and unpluggable form having a pitch on the order of 0.8 mm, using four rows of contact elements in each of the plug and socket which are in a continuous row and not staggered along the row with other contact elements, making the interconnection easier to manufacture and utilize.

A projection-type male connector component includes a buttress of insulative polymeric material surrounded by a number of electrically conductive contacts electrically isolated from each other. The male component is designed to mate with an equal number of female cantilever beam contacts. The buttress is provided with a tapered end and the male contacts are bent over this tapered end so that the female contacts touch the male contacts when the male and female contacts are mated rather than the insulative material from which the buttress is made. In this way, excessive wear of the female contacts is avoided.

High-density connector

A contact for electrically connecting a wire or cable to a conductive surface, such as metallized film. The contact is essentially a circular disk having bias means integral with the disk whereby, as a depression plate is lowered over the disk, the depression plate contacts bias means, facilitating even contact between the disk and the metallized film. The bias means preferably takes the form of tines integral with the disk which have benn formed to be slightly skewed with respect to the upper surface of the disk. The tines may be replaced by stretched bands, a coil spring, or may be eliminated by the curving the disk to form a Belleville spring.
