A method of making precision geometry honeycomb material formed of a composite material and exhibiting dimensional uniformity, is disclosed. Composite material is molded in the cavity of a single-sided female mold to form a first web with a plurality of honeycomb cell portions of the desired cell shape in the web. The details of the cavity mold configuration are captured to form the honeycomb cell portions in the composite material during molding the web by applying pressure to the composite material in the mold with an elastomeric pressure intensifier. The composite material of the web is stabilized as by curing. First and second molded webs are precisely aligned in a fixture and joined together at facing cell nodes thereof by bonding yielding a honeycomb material with superior geometric platform.

Method of making precision geometry advanced composite honeycomb material for spacecraft applications and honeycomb material made thereby

An extended play radio video cassette recorder (EPRVCR) capable of receiving and recording audio and video signals transmitted over a radio frequency channel is provided. The EPRVCR includes a videocassette recorder (VCR) and a tuner capable of receiving of radio frequency signals and television frequency signals electrically connected to the VCR. Method for broadcasting and receiving a composite video and audio signal over a radio frequency for subsequent recording by an extended play radio video cassette recorder is also provided. The method includes the steps of providing a VCR having a tuner capable of receiving radio frequency signals; broadcasting audio on a preselected baseband radio frequency; broadcasting a visual image on a subcarrier sideband of the preselected baseband frequency; and receiving the audio and visual image using the tuner of the VCR. The VCR is also capable of recording the audio and video image simultaneously onto a single video cassette. The EPRVCR is also capable of playing the audio and visual image through the VCR for display on a monitor. In an embodiment, the tuner is a direct digital frequency synthesis tuner.

Extended play radio vision cassette recorder system and method of operating same

A composite laminate structure, and a method for its fabrication. The structure includes a syntactic core layer (10) including an epoxy system catalyzed by a Lewis acid, and two face skin layers (12), each of which has multiple graphite fibers laid up in a polycyanate matrix resin catalyzed by cobalt. After thermal curing, the laminate structure has the unusual, but highly desirable property that it is compliant enough to be conformed at room temperature to a different shape, without damage to the structure. The structure may be later conformed to other shapes or conformed to its original shape, again without damage. Structures of unusual shapes can, therefore, be easily fabricated from sheets of the laminate material formed in one (1) convenient initial shape, such as a flat panel.

Compliant thermoset matrix, fiber reinforced, syntactic foam sandwich

A lightweight, compliant, high strength fabric providing controlled stretch, and a process for its manufacture. The fabric is consolidated into a unitary structure from a single stacked-film matrix of one or more thin elastomeric films, each having at least one reinforcing fiber embedded in the film in a sandwich construction. The reinforcing fibers are buckled along their length when the film is in a relaxed state, and if more than one fiber, arranged in a generally parallel relationship with each other within each elastomeric film. The stacked elastomeric films are cross-plied such that the courses of fibers in the separate films are aligned in selected multiple directions, with each course of fibers lying in its own plane. Stretching of the fabric in any of the selected multiple directions is uninhibited by the buckled fibers but is limited when the fibers reach a straightened condition. As the fabric stretches, the fibers straighten, eventually limiting the stretch of the fabric as the fibers become taut. When the stretch of the fabric is released, the fabric returns to its former relaxed state, with the fibers returning to their buckled state.
