A surgically implanted occluding assembly comprises an implant body having a longitudinally split generally 'C'-shaped cross-section tube circumscribing an anatomical lumen. In one embodiment, the surgically implanted occluding assembly is a male continence device selectively occluding a urethra. In some embodiments an occluding magnet is rigidly affixed with the implant body, and an external selective occlusion control assembly is used to selectively activate the surgically implanted occluding assembly. The external assembly has a magnet, and body supporting the magnet. The external selective occlusion control assembly is configured to be selectively placed and retained adjacent to the surgically implanted occluding assembly. In some embodiments, a bi-stable spring longer than and spanning the longitudinal split in the implant body has a first stable anatomical lumen occluding position curved into an interior of the longitudinal split, and a second stable anatomical lumen open position curved outward exterior of the longitudinally split tube.

A vending machine is designed to dispense multiple copies of a publication one at a time. The machine includes a storage member adapted to temporarily store multiple copies of a publication in a face-to-face orientation, a suction assembly formed of at least one suction cup that is adapted to seize and transport the front most copy of the publication to a dispensing position, a valve assembly associated with the suction cup to cause the cup to vent when in a dispensing position to dispense such copy into a delivery chute, and a slidable backplate biased to continuously urge the remaining copies of the publication forward.

A bistable penile prosthesis (20) designed to be surgically implanted in the penis for the treatment of erectile impotence. The prosthesis includes an articulated column (26) and an actuator apparatus (30) enclosed within an outer elongated sheath (28). The actuator apparatus (30) is configured and disposed for alternately compressing the articulated column (26) and tensioning a tension member (32) whereby frictional resistance increases causing an erect state, and stretching the articulated column (26) and relaxing the tension member (32) whereby frictional resistance decreases causing a flaccid state under volitional control by the patient. The actuator (30) includes a cam member (68) defining a pathway for travel therealong by a cam follower member (86) in only one direction.

A penile prosthesis (20) designed to be surgically implanted in the penis for the treatment of erectile impotence. The prosthesis comprises an articulated column (26) having alternating joints (56) enclosed with a switch (30) within an outer elongated sheath (28). The switch (30) is aligned for reversibly extending the articulated column (26) against the ends of the sheath and tensioning a tension member (32) whereby frictional resistance at the joints (56) increases causing an erect state.

Penile prosthesis

A universal dialyzer end cap which provides a connection between a kidney dialyzer and a blood tubing line. The end cap is constructed of a material which allows a firm connection to the dialyzer while at the same time is of a configuration which does not allow blood to contact the surface of the end cap when properly attached to a kidney dialyzer.
