The present disclosure relates to a personal care device having a conditioning layer comprising a porous matrix comprising pores and having a hydrophobic conditioning agent fluid dispersed in the pores so that the conditioning agent can migrate to an exposed surface of the conditioning layer and then may be transferred to hair or skin surfaces. The conditioning layer may be prepared by preparing an immiscible conditioning composition comprising a hydrophilic material that is capable of being cured, and a hydrophobic conditioning agent. The immiscible composition is cured to form a conditioning layer that is a porous matrix formed from the hydrophilic material, the porous matrix having the hydrophobic conditioning agent fluid dispersed in the pores thereof.

Methods for making and using vacuum switching devices are disclosed. A vacuum switching device has an operating rod for actuating a movable electrical contact within the device. The operating rod may be a hollow epoxy glass tube with an electrical sensor disposed within it, and there may be an elastomeric polymer filling compound disposed within the tube and encasing the sensor. The operating rod may be attached to the movable electrical contact on one end by a steel end-fitting that has been press-fit into the tube and secured with at least one cross pin. In this way, a very secure electromechanical connection may be made between the operating rod and the rest of the vacuum switching device, and the sensor is protected from shock associated with the operation of the device. Moreover, the vacuum switching device is compact and easy to construct.

Devices generating and distributing electrical energy incorporating the above-described dielectric fluid system and method of retrofilling such devices also are provided.

A transformer is disclosed, including a tank housing a transformer core/coil assembly, a dielectric insulating fluid surrounding the core/coil assembly, the fluid comprising a vegetable oil, an antioxidant dissolved in the oil, and a low temperature additive blended into the oil, wherein the fluid defines a headspace above the fluid. The preferred embodiment includes an oxygen absorbing material contained in the tank and in contact with gases in the tank but isolated from contact with the dielectric fluid, the tank including an opening and a sealed plug in the opening, such that the oxygen absorbing material can be replaced through the opening upon removal of the sealed plug, and further includes a gas permeable polymer container sealed against the opening for supporting the oxygen absorbing material and an indicator in gas contact with the headspace and visible from outside the tank for indicating the presence of oxygen in the headspace.
