A servo system has a moving member supported for movement therein and a pickoff device for sensing the position of the moving member relative to a reference position. The pickoff provides a position output which is connected to an attenuator at the input of a high gain amplifier having a feedback loop for attaining gain stability. The feedback loop contains circuit components which provide stability in the servo system. An amplifier output attenuator reduces the feedback loop signal levels. Amplifier output is coupled to motive means for driving the moving member toward the reference position. A timing circuit produces a timed output which dissipates over a predetermined period of time. The timed output operates to enable a field effect transistor which causes the input divider to attentuate the position output to the high gain amplifier. An additional field effect transistor is enabled by the timed output and operates to temporarily remove the effect of the circuit components which provide servo system stability. A reduced frequency servo system oscillation results.

Servo system temporary destabilization circuit and method

Kinematic mounting of an optical mirror cube in an athermal system is obtained wherein the optical mirror cube has a mounting post extending from a support surface thereon. The mirror cube also has an optical surface and a registration surface. A mounting pedestal extends from a structural surface upon which the mirror cube is fastened. The mounting pedestal has a mounting bore formed therein passing through a pedestal support surface for contacting the mirror cube support surface. The bore is formed to loosely receive the mounting post and a pedestal registration surface is provided for matching the mirror cube registration surface. The pedestal has a pair of lateral bores therethrough formed to intersect the mounting bore at substantially right angles. The mounting post has a pair of lateral bores therethrough with axes aligned with the lateral pedestal bores. A filler material having desirable compression strength qualities is disposed between the mounting bore and the mounting post extending into the lateral bores, and is cured while the pedestal and mirror cube registration surfaces are in contact.

Low stress optical mounting structure and method

An apparatus for measuring small angular displacement of any object having an attached light reflective surface. A reflecting mirror is attached to the test object for receiving a light beam from a light source and for reflecting the beam toward an angular excursion amplifier. A beam position detector is included in the angular excursion amplifier together with adjustable means for directing the beam toward the beam position sensor. A second beam is directed toward the angular excursion amplifier for impingement upon a reflector mounted upon the adjustable means in the angular excursion amplifier. The reflected second beam is directed toward a scale having a linear gradient calibrated in terms of angular excursion of the test object. In this fashion minute excursion angles of the test object are presented at the scale as amplified linear sweeps of the reflected second beam. One embodiment visualizes manual adjustment of the adjustable means in the angular excursion amplifier while another embodiment visualizes servoed adjustable means in the angular excursion amplifier. Means are provided for aligning the light beams with the angular excursion amplifier and the scale. The angular excursion amplifier is positioned at a relatively short predetermined distance from the test object.
