This invention relates to a method and system for remote detection of a targeted substance by the appropriate application of a probing signal that induces molecular resonance in the target substance to create an identifiable signature or response. In the preferred embodiment, signals transmitted are an Infrared laser beam, amplitude modulated in the range of 100 kHz frequency. The probing signal stimulates molecular resonance of the target substance which produces characteristic electron signal responses that are detected by IR detectors. A software program is used to process the electrical response signals and to compare them with electrical response signals stored in a database of known substances, thus allowing the target substance to be identified. The system may also be used to locate targeted substances. Also disclosed is an artificial ground device that provides a positive ground that provides consistent responses.

A circuit for generating signals in a data processing system has a passive delay line and logic gates connected to the output taps of the delay line. Isolation resistors are connected between the output taps and the logic gates in order to substantially reduce signal reflections in the signal path within the delay line that are caused by the input capacitance of the logic gates.

A computer system clock generator generates several system clock signals which are in a tuned state at desired locations, thereby offsetting the effects of varying propagation delays among the system clock signals. A shift register ring has one of its taps selectively connected to its data input so that a series of logic high level and logic low level data is advanced through the shifting stages. A tap selector for each desired output signal logically combines the signals output from the appropriate taps to produce output clock signals having desired leading and trailing edges.

The subject invention is an ECL to CMOS converter for converting high or low ECL logic signals. The converter comprises a CMOS inverter for providing low or high CMOS logic signals at its output in response to a first or second signal, respectively, applied to its input. The first signal must exceed a first predetermined value and the second signal must fall below a second predetermined value. The first and second predetermined values are such that either the low ECL signal does not fall below the second predetermined value or the high ECL signal does not exceed the first predetermined value. The converter also provides means for converting the high and low logic signals to the first and second signals, respectively.

A clock distribution system having a generator for generating a train of pulses, a transition circuit connected to the output of the generator for generating a clock signal having spaced apart transitions of a desired polarity, a distribution circuit distributing the clock signal to a plurality of boards which utilize the clock signal, and a flip-flop on each of the boards which utilize the clock signal. Each of the flip-flops is connected to the distribution circuit for receiving the clock signal and for generating clock pulses which are defined by the spaced apart transitions.
