A twin roll caster for an apparatus for confining the impurities in a molten metal fed by means of a discharger and contained into an area of a strip continuous casting mold delimited by the side surfaces of two casting rolls with counter-rotating horizontal axis and by two containment side plates positioned in contact with the rolls' bases is provided. The apparatus includes a discharger having at least two first series of holes for the molten metal supply, each series being formed by at least a pair of holes respectively directed towards one of the opposed side surfaces of the two rolls and at least a second pair of holes for the molten metal supply, each hole of such second pair being directed towards the side plate nearest thereto, and said at least one second pair of holes being positioned at a greater depth with respect to said two first series of holes, and at least two pairs of barriers present in one part of the area comprised between the end of the nozzle and the containment side plates, forming the cross-sections of said barriers therebetween, lying on a same horizontal plane, an Y angle.

Apparatus for confining the impurities of a molten metal contained into a continuous casting mould

A casting wheel for the continuous casting of strips of metal has a core and sleeve of heat-conductive material which is shrunk on the core, and circumferential cooling ducts arranged between the core and the sleeve, which are connected with coolant supply line and coolant discharge line. The coolant is guided from the radially extending supply line into cooling ducts and from cooling ducts into the radially extending discharge line by means of a guiding element that can be inserted in cooling ducts.

Plates for use in continuous casting process for the manufacture thereof

Rolls for strip continuous casting machines

In vertical thin-bodies continuous casting machines in which the liquid metal is cast in a mold formed by a pair of counter-rotating rolls with parallel longitudinal axes lying in the same horizontal plane and by a pair of containment plates facing onto the flat ends of the rolls, an electromagnetic device is introduced which produces a field of electromagnetic forces in a desired and given space formed between the plates and roll ends, the orientation and intensity of the forces being such as to impede leakage of liquid metal between the plates and the rolls. With this device the contact between plates and rolls is eliminated, as is the relative wear. Moreover, flat metal products are obtained that are substantially free from surface defects on the edges. Lastly, the absence of flashes on the edges due to metal infiltrating and solidifying between plates and rolls markedly decreases the possibility of jamming the machine.
