In one implementation, an apparatus includes a display having a front surface and a back surface. The display includes a plurality of pixel regions that emit light from the front surface to display a displayed image and a plurality of apertures that transmit light from the front surface to the back surface. The apparatus includes a camera disposed on a side of the back surface of the display. The camera is configured to capture a captured image. The apparatus includes a processor coupled to the display and the camera. The processor is configured to receive the captured image and apply a first digital filter to a first portion of the captured image and a second digital filter, different than the first digital filter, to a second portion of the captured image to reduce image distortion caused by the display.

Electronic device including a camera disposed behind a display

Presenting an image of a scene may include capturing an image of a scene by a camera of an electronic device, wherein the electronic device comprises the camera and a display, and wherein the camera and the display have a first spatial relationship, determining a second spatial relationship between a viewpoint and the display of the electronic device, warping the image to obtain an image of a first portion of the scene based on the first spatial relationship and the second spatial relationship, and presenting the warped image on the display, wherein, from the viewpoint, the image of the first portion of the scene is substantially contiguous with a second portion of the scene visible outside an edge of the electronic device.

Camera-based transparent display

This disclosure describes a novel lens system having an entrance pupil at a location matching, or nearly matching, the eye's optical system entrance pupil. The described lens system is significantly thinner than a single-aperture lens with matched entrance pupil and is achieved by using an array of camera elements. Each camera element contains camera optics called 'lenslets' and a sensor (e.g., an image or depth sensor), where a lenslet can include one or more lens elements (e.g., a compound lens). Individual camera elements can be arranged such that THEIR optical axes intersect at, or near, the eye's entrance pupil location. In addition, each camera element's field-of-view (FOV) corresponds to a small sector of a large FOV. The FOVs of adjacent camera elements can be non- or slightly-overlapping so that a wide-angle image can be formed by concatenation of the individual camera element images.

Lens array for shifting perspective of an imaging system

A device for MR/VR systems that includes a two-dimensional array of cameras that capture images of respective portions of a scene. The cameras are positioned along a spherical surface so that the cameras have adjacent fields of view. The entrance pupils of the cameras are positioned at or near the user's eye while the cameras also form optimized images at the sensor. Methods for reducing the number of cameras in an array, as well as methods for reducing the number of pixels read from the array and processed by the pipeline, are also described.

Camera system

In one implementation, a method includes obtaining an image. The method includes generating a plurality of denoised images by denoising the image using a respective plurality of denoisers, wherein the plurality of denoisers includes a first denoiser associated with a first level of exposure and a second denoiser associated with a second level of exposure. The method includes generating a combined image by combining the plurality of denoised images.

Method and device for generating a high-dynamic range (HDR) image

A mixed reality system that includes a head-mounted display (HMD) that provides 3D virtual views of a user's environment augmented with virtual content. The HMD may include sensors that collect information about the user's environment (e.g., video, depth information, lighting information, etc.), and sensors that collect information about the user (e.g., the user's expressions, eye movement, hand gestures, etc.). The sensors provide the information as inputs to a controller that renders frames including virtual content based at least in part on the inputs from the sensors. The HMD may display the frames generated by the controller to provide a 3D virtual view including the virtual content and a view of the user's environment for viewing by the user.

Display system having sensors

A scene camera system that includes two or more mirrors that reflect light from a respective portion of a field of view (FOV) in front of the system and two or more cameras that each capture the light reflected by a respective one of the two or more mirrors. By using the mirrors to reflect the light, the cameras' entrance pupils are imaged to a location closer to a user's eyes to thus achieve a more accurate representation of the perspective of the user.

Mirror-based scene cameras

A light field panorama system in which a user holding a mobile device performs a gesture to capture images of a scene from different positions. Additional information, for example position and orientation information, may also be captured. The images and information may be processed to determine metadata including the relative positions of the images and depth information for the images. The images and metadata may be stored as a light field panorama. The light field panorama may be processed by a rendering engine to render different 3D views of the scene to allow a viewer to explore the scene from different positions and angles with six degrees of freedom. Using a rendering and viewing system such as a mobile device or head-mounted display, the viewer may see behind or over objects in the scene, zoom in or out on the scene, or view different parts of the scene.
