Techniques and apparatus for driving a transistor gate of a switched-mode power supply (SMPS) circuit. One example gate driver for a switching transistor of an SMPS circuit generally includes a first power supply rail; a reference rail; an output node for coupling to a control input of the switching transistor; a floating supply node; a pulldown transistor having a drain coupled to the output node of the gate driver and having a source coupled to the reference rail; and a pulldown logic buffer having a first power supply input coupled to the floating supply node, having a second power supply input coupled to the reference rail, and having an output coupled to a gate of the pulldown transistor. The floating supply node is configured to selectively receive power from the first power supply rail and the output node of the gate driver.

An apparatus and method for to incrementally reduce (e.g., de-rate) a power supply voltage output (VOUT) of a regulator to multiple subsystems in response to detecting high power conditions in a client device is described. In one instance, multiple low power client devices and a high power consumption client device are coupled to a power grid of the power management system with a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) supplying power to the power grid. The PMIC includes a buck-or-boost switching regulator including a load current adjustment device to de-rate the high power consumption device when a sum of the current consumed by the high power consumption device and the low power client devices is above a predetermined threshold.

Power supply current priority based auto de-rating for power concurrency management

Exemplary embodiments are related to detecting a reverse-boosting operation of a battery charger. A device may include a plurality of switches for receiving an input voltage at an input port and conveying an output voltage. The device may also include a first sensing device coupled to the input port configured to detect if an input current is less than a threshold current. Further, the device may include a second sensing device selectively coupled to the input port to detect if the input voltage is less than a threshold voltage.

The present disclosure includes systems and methods for 100% duty cycle in switching regulators. A switching regulator circuit includes a ramp generator to produce a ramp signal having a period and a comparator to receive the ramp signal and an error signal, and in accordance therewith, produce a modulation signal. In a first mode of operation, the ramp signal increases to intersect the error signal, and in accordance therewith, changes a state of a switching transistor during each period of the ramp signal. In a second mode of operation, the error signal increase above a maximum value of the ramp signal, and in accordance therewith, the switching transistor is turned on for one or more full periods of the ramp signal.

Systems and methods for 100 percent duty cycle in switching regulators

A method and apparatus for derating current and for derating current for a camera flash. The method comprises monitoring a local junction temperature of a module. The local junction temperature is converted into a local junction current. The local junction current is then compared with a reference current, which is independent of temperature. After the current comparison and subtraction is made, a derate control current is obtained to generate the LED reference current. After the temperature crosses the temperature threshold, the derate control current is derated. Both the temperature threshold and current derate slope are programmable and precisely controlled. The LED output current is regulated and proportional to the LED reference current. If the local junction temperature is greater than the temperature threshold, the LED output current is derated at the moment of the camera flash to avoid thermal overload.

Method and apparatus for current derating with integrated temperature sensing

A switching regulator includes a capacitor, a charge control circuit, a discharge detector, a switch circuit, and a feedback circuit. The charge control circuit charges and discharges the capacitor. The discharge detector has an input coupled to the capacitor to detect when the capacitor has discharged to a predetermined level to indicate an over-current condition. The switch circuit is coupled to receive an input voltage. The switch circuit is made conductive and non conductive by a switching signal for supplying an output voltage at a regulated voltage level. The duty cycle of the switching signal is reduced in response to an indication of an over-current condition. The feedback circuit is for controlling a discharge rate of the capacitor.

Switching regulator with input current limiting capabilities

A circuit comprises a first level shifting circuit. The level shifting circuit comprises a first and second latching differential pairs. The first latching differential pair has first and second inputs for receiving first and second input signals, first and second outputs, and first and second power supply voltage terminals for receiving a first power supply voltage. The second latching differential pair has first and second inputs coupled to the first and second outputs of the first latching differential pair, an output, and first and second power supply voltage terminals for receiving a second power supply voltage, the second power supply voltage being different from the first power supply voltage. In one embodiment, the level shifting circuit protects transistor gates of the circuit from an overvoltage.
