A method performed by an automated transaction machine (ATM) can include maintaining, with the ATM, a count of disbursement commands received by the ATM that require the ATM to dispense a stack size of currency greater than or equal to a first predetermined amount. The method can also include comparing, with the ATM, the count to a second predetermined amount. The method can also include aborting, by the ATM, a first disbursement command that requires a stack size of currency to be dispensed by the ATM that is greater than or equal to the first predetermined amount in response to said comparing when the count is greater than or equal to the second predetermined amount.

Method of operating an automated transaction machine for enhanced security

A method of operating an automated transaction machine (ATM) can include at least partially disengaging a first component of the ATM from a remainder of the ATM. The method can also include altering the first component to a non-conforming condition after being at least partially disengaged. The method can also include re-engaging the first component with the ATM after being altered. The method can also include replacing a second component of the ATM after the re-engaging. Replacing the second component can include pairing the second component with a computing device of the ATM. The pairing can be responsive at least in part to the altering.

A method of operating an automated transaction machine (ATM) can include receiving a token from a user. The method can also include confirming a personal identification number (PIN) of the user and dispensing banknotes in response to the confirming. The method can also include at least partially disengaging a first component of the ATM from a remainder of the ATM. Described in example embodiments herein are techniques for implementing an automated banking machine such as an ATM. An example embodiments, tracks the flow of a note through an ATM. Another embodiment corrects errors detected during a note flow. Some embodiments are in the form of security protocols for communications or other communication protocols, or techniques for monitoring devices operating in the ATM. Yet another example embodiment is directed to security of a currency cassette. Still yet another embodiment is directed to detecting tampering of the ATM's gate and/or shuttle. Yet still another embodiment determines if notes in a shuttle were delivered.
