The present disclosure is directed to an additive composition for engine oils comprising; (a) an alkenyl-substituted succinic anhydride and (b) a polyamine compound and (C) Co-additives, wherein the reaction product has a ratio of the amide to imide infrared absorption peak areas of about 1:1.2 to about 1.6. The said reaction product is effective to prevent engine deposits along with protecting elastomeric seal material of an internal combustion engine and also improves piston cleanliness and ring sticking performance of an internal combustion engine.

Optimized composition for engine deposits and seals

A lubricant composition is disclosed. The lubricant composition is made up of (a) an API Group III base stock; (b) one or more semi-crystalline viscosity modifier; and (c) one or more LOFIs having a side-chain distribution which satisfies the following requirements: (1) the distribution contains side chains ranging from Cto Cwith an average carbon number ranging from 12.4 to 14.4; (2) the side chain distribution is bi-modal with a lower portion of the bi-modal distribution made up primarily of Cand an upper portion of the distribution made up primarily of C, Cor combinations thereof; (3) the total mole % of the upper portion of the distribution must be less than that of the lower portion of the distribution; and (4) the amount of Con the side chain must be at least 40 mole % of the total side chain distribution.

Lubricating oil compositions providing superior soot dispersing characteristics, which contain a combination of a high molecular weight dispersant and a soot dispersant comprising a linked aromatic oligomer.

A viscosity index (VI) improver concentrate containing at least one VI improver, from 0 to about 5 mass % of lubricating oil flow improver (LOFI) and diluent oil, wherein the diluent oil has a kvof at least about 3.0 cSt and a CCS at &#x2212;35&#xb0; C. of less than 3700 cPs, and wherein at least about 98 mass % of the concentrate is composed of VI improver, LOFI and diluent oil.

A lubricating oil composition having less than 0.2 wt. % sulfur, less than 50 ppm chlorine, less than 50 ppm phosphorus, a NOACK volatility of 15 wt. % or less comprising an organo-molybdenum compound, an overbased calcium or magnesium salicylate, a dispersant and a supplemental antioxidant.

Low molecular weight Mannich base condensates of hydroxy aromatic compounds, an aldehyde; and an amine, wherein the combined number of substituent carbon atoms does not exceed 80. Compositions for improving at least the low temperature flow properties of high viscosity index, high saturates, low sulfur lubricating oils (also known as American Petroleum Institute Group II and Group III oils). The compositions comprise a mixture of lubricating oil flow improvers (LOFIs) that are specified first and second component copolymers of unsaturated dicarboxy esters, including a first component which is a polymer or copolymer of a carboxylate containing pendent ester groups wherein the average side chain carbon number is between 11.0 and 12.4, such as dialkyl fumarate/vinyl acetate copolymer, and a second component which also is a polymer or copolymer such as dialkyl fumarate/vinyl acetate copolymer, but wherein the average side chain carbon number is between 12.7 and 15.0. Alternatively, each of the polymers or copolymers can be esterified styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer, or esterified olefin/maleic anhydride copolymer provided that each of the two components has the specified, different average side chain carbon numbers.

Carboxylate-vinyl ester copolymer blend compositions for lubricating oil flow improvement

The invention provides synergistic combinations of phosphorus acid-containing compounds with ashless antioxidants. These combinations dramatically improve the oxidation stability of lubricating compositions, particularly power transmission fluids such as automatic transmission fluids.

Process for making sulfur boron antiwear agents for lubricating

A lubricating oil having an ashless nitrogenous TBN source together with ash containing detergent having a TBN in excess of 100, a source of magnesium, and metal dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphate with predominantly or exclusively secondary hydrocarbyl groups is described. It comprises a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity having a sulfated ash content between 0.35 and 2 mass percent and A) a nitrogenous TBN source selected from the group consisting of ashless nitrogen containing dispersants, ashless nitrogen containing dispersant viscosity modifiers, oil soluble aliphatic, oxyalkyl, or arylalkyl amines and mixtures thereof; B) a metal salt of an oil soluble acid having a TBN in excess of 100; C) at least 500 ppm (mass) magnesium; and D) at least one metal dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphate. The nitrogenous TBN source provides at least about 1.5 TBN to the finished lubricant. The metal salt of an oil soluble acid provides at least about 40% of the total TBN of the composition. At least 50 mole per cent of the hydrocarbyl groups on the dithiophosphate are secondary. Overbased magnesium sulfonate may be used as the metal salt of an oil soluble sulfonic acid having a TBN in excess of 100 and the additive providing at least 500 ppm (mass) magnesium. The lubricant may be free of aromatic amines having at least two aromatic groups attached directly to the nitrogen. It may have at least 100 ppm (mass) boron and at least 1000 ppm (mass) phosphorous. The boron-to-nitrogen ratio is at least 0.1.

There are disclosed antioxidant additives for lubricating oils which exhibit reduced phosphorus volatility, the additives being sodium, potassium, lithium or oil soluble amine salts of a dialkyldithiophosphoric acid prepared by reacting P.sub.2 S.sub.5 with a mixture of alcohols consisting of (a) a polyol of the formula R(OH).sub.n where R is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.20 hydrocarbyl group and n is 2-10 and (b) an aliphatic monohydric alcohol having 3-18 carbon atoms, the mixture containing relative amounts of polyol and monohydric alcohol such that 50 mole % of the total OH groups are OH groups of the polyol.
