A stress plate or seam plate for use in connection with securing membrane sheets to underlying roofing decking substructure comprises a circular disk having a central aperture for receiving a screw fastener. A plurality of concentric ribs are defined between the central aperture and the peripheral edge of the plate for providing reinforcing and bending or flexibility characteristics to the stress plate or seam plate, and in accordance with the principles and teachings of the present invention, a plurality of circumferentially spaced, downwardly extending projections having substantially V-shaped cross-sectional configurations are provided upon the underside of the seam or stress plate so as to engage the membrane sheets and retain the same at their desired locations upon the underlying roofing deck substructural assembly. Contrary to conventional stress plates having sharp-pointed prongs or tangs, the projections of the present invention have substantially rounded or radiused apices so as not to puncture or rupture the membrane sheets.

Seam plate for retaining roof decking membrane

A roofing plate for securing a roofing membrane to a roof includes a top surface, a bottom surface and a generally oblong peripheral edge having two major sides and two minor sides. An opening is located generally centrally on the plate in a central portion for receiving a fastener for securing the plate to the roof, and a plurality of gripping formations are formed on the peripheral edge for preventing slippage of the roofing membrane relative to the plate. Also included are a pair of first rib portions which project from the top surface respectively along at least each of the two major sides between the peripheral edge and the central opening, and a pair of transverse ribs which project from the top surface for enhancing torsional stability and reinforcing the central portion of the plate.

In a roofing washer-dispensing and fastener-driving machine, which has a fastener-feeding tube, a fastener-engaging pawl is mounted operatively to the tube, near its upper end. The pawl is pivotable between a normal position wherein the pawl is arranged to engage a fastener dropped into the tube so as to prevent the fastener from dropping through the tube and a pivoted position wherein the pawl is arranged to disengage from the fastener. An elongate rod is arranged to pivot the pawl from the normal position into the pivoted position when the machine is operated. In the same machine, a magazine adapted to hold a stack of such washers is improved so as to have a bridge mounted pivotably to one of two side walls of the magazine and a cover is mounted adjustably to the bridge, so that the cover in an upwardly adjusted position is inserted into the magazine, above a stack of such washers in the magazine, when the bridge spans the side walls and so that the cover is removed from the magazine when the bridge is pivoted to a position wherein the bridge does not span the side walls. The cover is mounted to the bridge via a rod, along which the cover is movable. In the same machine, a shuttle adapted to be reciprocatingly driven is improved so as to have a transverse groove, in which an elongate brace having a pivot pin at each end is fixed by fasteners so as to bear against the leading and trailing edges of the groove, and a transverse rib adapted to engage the lowermost washer in a stack in the magazine is defined by a removable element.

Roofing washer-dispensing and fastener-driving machine

A stress plate for use with a threaded fastener for securing relatively soft insulation to a solid base, such as in a roofing environment, includes a generally planar main body, and a hole on the main body configured for receiving the fastener. The plate is configured so that the hole is angled relative to a vertical axis of the plate for accommodating threads of the fastener so that the fastener is maintained in a generally perpendicular orientation to the main body upon the engagement of the threads of the fastener in the hole. In the preferred embodiment, the threads of the fastener have a helix angle, and the hole, which is formed in a conical depression in the plate, is angled at the same angle as the threads of the fastener.

A washer for attaching insulation to a roof member over which roofing membrane is to be placed. The washer includes a laterally extending apertured flange and an upstanding hollow cylindrical protrusion adapted to snappingly engage the head of a fastener used with the washer. The protrusion has an inwardly extending lip on the inside surface of the free end of the protrusion. In an alternative embodiment sloping ribs guide a fastener head into snapping engagement with an inwardly projecting lip. In all embodiments a resilient rib is disposed on a shoulder formed in the aperture in the washer. The rib resiliently urges the head of the fastener into engagement with the lip. The washer includes a downwardly extending hub, which may be equipped with means for retaining the washer in a batten strip.

The washer includes a laterally extending apertured flange and an upstanding hollow cylindrical protrusion adapted to snappingly engage the head of a fastener used with the washer. The rib resiliently urges the head of the fastener into engagement with the lip. The washer includes a downwardly extending hub, which may be equipped with means for retaining the washer in a batten strip.
