A controller of a vehicle, while the vehicle is within a predefined geofenced region and responsive to the vehicle entering park, increases a maximum state of charge threshold for the battery and decreases a minimum state of charge threshold for the battery. The controller also, while the vehicle is located within the predefined geofenced region and responsive to the vehicle exiting park, decreases the maximum state of charge threshold and increases the minimum state of charge threshold.

A vehicle includes an engine, an electric machine, a traction battery, and a controller. The controller, responsive to the vehicle not moving, a temperature of the traction battery being less than a temperature threshold, and a state-of-charge of the traction battery being greater than a state-of-charge threshold, rotates the engine via the electric machine powered by the traction battery while no fuel is supplied to the engine.

A system and method for controlling a hybrid vehicle having an engine, a traction motor, and an automatic step-ratio transmission having a plurality of selectable discrete gear ratios, a torque converter, and sharing a common cooling fluid or oil with the traction motor, include a controller configured to shift the automatic step-ratio transmission to neutral in response to vehicle speed being below a threshold with the engine idling while temperatures of at least two of: the traction battery, the electric machine, and the transmission are above associated thresholds to reduce heat generation by the torque converter due to oil shear with the torque converter stalled. The controller may shift the transmission to drive in response to release of a brake pedal. A neutral shift may also be performed in response to high-voltage accessory loads or on-board generator loads exceeding a threshold.

Hybrid vehicle transmission shift control for electric machine thermal management

A vehicle may include an engine, a traction battery, an electric motor, an electric cooling system, and a controller. The electric motor selectively converts torque from the engine to electric power and converts electric power from the traction battery to drive torque for the vehicle. The electric cooling system, responsive to a temperature of the traction battery exceeding a first threshold, cools the traction battery using the electric power. The controller, responsive to the temperature exceeding a second threshold less than the first threshold and accessory loads exceeding a third threshold, operates one or both of the engine and traction battery to maintain the temperature below the first threshold.

Powertrain control to preclude thermal-related reduced operation

A vehicle powertrain includes a battery, an electric machine, an electrical circuit, an electrical outlet, and a controller. The electric machine is configured to receive electrical power from the battery to propel the vehicle and to deliver electrical power to the battery to recharge the battery. The electrical circuit is configured to transfer electrical power between the battery and the electric machine. The electrical outlet is configured to deliver power from the electrical circuit to an external device that is connected to the outlet. The controller is programmed to, in response to a first set of conditions that is indicative of the vehicle powertrain overheating or a second set of conditions that is indicative of an inability to charge the battery to a requested charge value, issue a warning of an impending shutdown of the electrical outlet.

A vehicle includes a combustion engine configured to output mechanical power and an electric machine coupled to the engine and configured to convert the mechanical power to electrical power. The vehicle also includes a battery to exchange electrical power with the electric machine. The vehicle further includes a controller programmed to receive user inputs indicative of a desired storage duration and a storage location and monitor a battery state of charge (SOC) while the vehicle is stored. The controller is also programmed to prompt a remote user to approve an engine auto-start in response to the SOC depleting to less than a predetermined threshold during storage, and to auto-start the engine to generate power to recharge the battery in response to remote user approval. The controller is further programmed to inhibit the auto-start of the engine in response to the vehicle being stored in an enclosed storage location.

Vehicle battery power management systems and methods

A thermal management for a hybrid vehicle is provided. The system includes an engine coolant to cabin air heat exchanger in a first heat exchange loop and being operably coupled to an engine coolant circuit and cabin air in the vehicle, respectively, a transmission fluid to engine coolant heat exchanger in a second heat exchange loop and being operably coupled to a transmission fluid circuit and the engine coolant circuit, respectively, a control valve operable to control a flow of engine coolant through at least the second heat exchange loop, and a control module configured to selectively operate the control valve to initiate or restrict the flow through the second heat exchange loop to provide heat to the transmission fluid circuit based on ambient temperature, transmission fluid temperature and engine coolant temperature. The control module is further configured to enable control functions associated with transmission operation and hybrid functions based on the transmission fluid temperature.
