The invention refers to a wireless device and to operating the wireless terminal, UE, connected to a serving network node associated to a serving cell of a radio access network, RAN, the method comprising: receiving system information from a neighbour cell of the serving cell, determining from the system information if the neighbour cell does or does not broadcast a global cell identifier, CGI, of the neighbour cell; and if the neighbour cell does not broadcast the CGI, transmitting a global cell identifier, CGI, report to the serving network node, wherein the CGI report includes an indication that the neighbour cell does not broadcast the CGI of the neighbour cell. The invention further refers to a corresponding network node and to a method performed in the network node.

Embodiments include methods performed by a network node, in a radio access network, RAN, that is a target node candidate for a mobility operation of a user equipment, UE. Such methods include receiving, from a source node serving the UE, a request to prepare a mobility procedure for the UE in relation to a candidate target cell associated with the network node. The request can include characteristics associated with a data connection of the UE. Such methods include determining that the UE can be admitted for the requested mobility procedure based on the characteristics, and determining to activate bicasting of the data connection. Different bicasting modes can be selected. Such methods also include transmitting, to the source node, a response that includes a bicasting configuration associated with the UE. Other embodiments include complementary methods performed by source nodes, as well as network nodes configured to perform such methods.

Techniques for conditional handover and bi-casting

Among other things, the method and apparatus examples herein provide a solution to the problems that arise regarding the need for a wireless device to achieve source synchronization in a beam-based system, where the wireless communication network does not define 'cells' for connected-mode wireless devices. The problems relate to how a wireless device can re-synchronize with its source access node in a beam-based system that mainly relies on self-contained transmissions from transmission points in the network. As one example advantage, the contemplated methods and apparatus enable wireless devices to perform measurements to support mobility procedures even when no data transmissions are scheduled.

Measurement configuration for unlicensed operations

A user equipment (UE) operates to select and/or re-select among radio cells provided by access nodes of a wireless communication system. The UE measures quality of beams detected from each of the cells. For each of the cells, the UE derives cell quality based on the quality of the beams from the cell. For each of the cells, the UE determines the number of good beams among the beams from the cell based on a cell quality threshold received via system information. The UE ranks the cells in a ranking list relative to each other based on the number of good beams associated with respective ones of the cells and the cell quality. The UE controls, based on the ranking of the cells in the ranking list the number of good beams and the cell quality, selection and/or re-selection of a cell among the cells that is to be used for UE radio communications.
