A distributor device for distributing cooling air within a gas turbine engine, the device including a base mountable adjacent an inlet for air to be distributed; and a deflector supported by the base and in fluid communication with the air inlet, the deflector being configured to direct air from the air inlet in a plurality of directions within the engine; wherein the deflector includes one or more deflecting surfaces curvilinearly configured to direct the air differentially in a plurality of desired directions within the engine. In embodiments the deflecting surface(s) is/are curved and are so configured such that air from the air inlet is directable either: (i) in directions of travel in each of a plurality of desired different, non-parallel directions within the engine; or (ii) in each of a plurality of desired different directions within the engine with different flow rates.

Distributor device for cooling air within an engine

A labyrinth seal is provided for forming a seal between a first and a second component which rotate relative to each other. The seal has an abradable lining mounted to the first component, and a plurality of fins projecting from the second component. The fins are arranged in abutment with the abradable lining to form a labyrinthal path for a flow of air through the seal. The seal further has a bypass passage which extends through the abradable lining. The bypass passage allows air to flow through the seal and bypass the labyrinthal path.

Labyrinth seal

A turbine stage of a gas turbine engine is surrounded by a ring of liner segments. The liner segments can be moved radially in unison towards and away from the tips or fins of blades, by rotation of a connected unison ring, so as to avoid blade fin rub. Alternatively, the segments can be moved in a common direction by bodily movement of the connected unison ring so as to avoid blade fin rub during off axis rotation of the turbine stage.
