A PPG PRV device for generating a PRV parameter of a PPG signal () as an estimation of a HRV parameter of an ECG signal. The PPG PRV device employs a PPG probe () and a PPG PRV controller (). In operation, the PPG probe () generate a PPG signal (). In response thereto, the PPG PRV controller () generates a normalized PPG signal (') including a plurality of pulses of the PPG signal () designated as normal pulses by the PPG PRV controller () and excluding at least one pulse of the PPG signal () designated at least one abnormal pulse by the PPG PRV controller (), wherein the normalized PPG signal (&#x2032;) is HRV comparable to the ECG signal. The PPG PRV controller () derives the PRV parameter from a HRV measurement of the normalized PPG signal (&#x2032;).

Artifact-tolerant pulse rate variability measurement

A defibrillator or other patient monitoring device () employing an ECG monitor () and a controller (). The ECG monitor () monitors an ECG waveform of a heart of a patient. The controller () segments the ECG waveform, and for each ECG waveform segment of a series of ECG waveform segments, generates an ECG shock advisory between a shock decision, a no-shock decision and an optional shock indecision. The controller () further monitors a consistency of the ECG shock advisories between consistent shock decisions, consistent no-shock decisions, and optional inconsistent shock decisions.

Consistency monitoring for ECG shock advisory decisions

A method, system and device to detect and use clean ECG segments, which do not need filtering to remove artifact or CPR-induced noise, is described to provide a reliability score for the decision made by shock advisory algorithms. The method can be implemented in a system and/or device that is provided with a display for indicating to a user the relative quality of the determination of an electrotherapy analysis circuit.
