The removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions using metal-doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles is a method that comprises contacting the aqueous solution with metal-doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles. The three transition metals tungsten, vanadium and iron were selected for doping of titanium dioxide. Removal of the toxic heavy metals Pb(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) was studied intensively by using metal-doped titanium dioxide to measure the isotherms and kinetics. The isotherms studies showed that the highest removal percentage of Pb(II) was achieved by W-doped titanium dioxide, while Fe-doped titanium dioxide and V-doped titanium dioxide performed better for removal of Zn(II) and Cd(II), respectively.

Removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions using vanadium-doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles

The method to produce ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) incorporates tungsten-doped titania (TiO/W) nanofiller during the ethylene polymerization process. The UHMWPE possesses improved mechanical and thermal properties. The process for producing the UHMWPE includes contacting ethylene under polymerization conditions with a polymerization catalyst (a vanadium (III) complex bearing bidentate salicylaldiminato ligands) in the presence of TiO/W nanofiller and a co-catalyst in a reactor. The reactor is charged with solvent (e.g., toluene) and heated to a temperature suitable for polymerization, e.g., about 30&#xb0; C. Following heating, the ethylene monomer is fed into the reactor and allowed to saturate for at least 10 minutes, and a methyl aluminum dichloride co-catalyst (MADC) is added to initiate polymerization of ethylene. Polymerization is quenched by adding methanol containing HCl incorporated with titania-tungsten nanofillers, which is then washed and dried to yield UHMWPE.

Method to produce ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene

The method of producing activated carbon from fuel oil includes mixing the fuel oil with an activating chemical at room temperature to produce an activated fuel oil, carbonizing the activated fuel oil to produce activated carbon, and optionally washing the activated carbon produced. The produced activated carbon has high efficiency and it may be activated in a process that requires a comparatively low amount of energy, thus allowing the activated carbon to be regenerated in-situ.

The ethylene/propylene copolymer nanocomposite is a copolymer prepared by inclusion of a filler of nanoparticles of titania doped with iron that permits control over, and variation of, the overall polymeric properties. Through the addition of the TiO/Fe nanofiller, the concentration of polypropylene in the copolymer is increased and the overall crystallinity is decreased. In order to make the copolymer, a TiO/Fe titania-iron nanofiller is first mixed with a polymerization catalyst (a vanadium (III) complex bearing bidentate salicylaldiminato ligands) in a reactor. The reactor is then charged with solvent (e.g., toluene) and heated to a temperature suitable for polymerization, e.g., about 30&#xb0; C. Following heating, a mixture of ethylene and propylene gases (in selected molar ratios) is fed into the reactor at a fixed pressure, and methyl aluminum dichloride co-catalyst (MADC) is added to initiate polymerization. Polymerization is quenched to yield the ethylene/propylene copolymer nanocomposite, which is then washed and dried.

The vehicle electrocatalyzer for recycling carbon dioxide to fuel hydrocarbons includes a main tubular member having a plurality of tubular catalytic cells, electrically connected in series disposed inside and separated from one another by semipermeable membranes allowing the passage of fluids, but not solids. The electrocatalyzer can be attached in the exhaust system where hydrogen could be generated by the electrolysis of water. Metallic copper, iron, carbonaceous materials (such as activated carbon, carbon nanomaterials, or graphite), metal oxides, or metal-supported catalysts may be used in each catalytic cell. A DC current connected across the cells is used to initiate reaction of the carbon dioxide with hydrogen gas. The resulting hydrocarbons are recycled back to the vehicle engine and used as a makeup fuel.

The carbon dioxide adsorbent composition relates to a material that will adsorb carbon dioxide gas from the atmosphere and that is made by the treatment of oil fly ash with ammonium hydroxide. In order to make the carbon dioxide adsorbent, oil fly ash is first mixed with ammonium hydroxide. This mixture is then refluxed and cooled. Additional ammonium hydroxide is added to the cooled mixture of oil fly ash and ammonium hydroxide to form a secondary mixture. This forms an amine-functionalized fly ash composition, which is then filtered from the secondary mixture to be used as a carbon dioxide adsorbent composition. The carbon dioxide adsorbent composition is then dried and may be used as a carbon dioxide adsorbent for gas streams, such as flues and exhaust systems, containing carbon dioxide.

The method of making high-density polyethylene with titania-iron nanofillers involves mixing a TiO/Fe titania-iron nanofiller with a vanadium (III) complex bearing salicylaldiminato ligands polymerization catalyst in a reactor. The reactor is then charged with toluene and heated to a temperature of about 30&#xb0; C. Following heating, ethylene is fed into the reactor at a fixed pressure, and a methyl aluminum dichloride cocatalyst is added to initiate in situ polymerization. Polymerization is quenched to yield high-density polyethylene with titania-iron nanofillers, which is then washed and dried. Through the addition of a TiO/Fe nanofiller, the molecular weight, the crystallinity and the melting temperature of high-density polyethylene are all increased, while the polydispersity index (PDI) is decreased.
