Headphones may include an ear-cup housing and an audio driver disposed at least partially within the ear-cup housing. The audio driver may include a driver housing, a diaphragm suspended from the driver housing, one of a magnet and a coil carried on a back side of the diaphragm, and another of the magnet and the coil carried by the driver housing behind the diaphragm, the magnet and coil magnetically coupled with one another such that electrical current flowing through the coil generates a magnetic force acting on the diaphragm through the magnet or coil carried on the back side of the diaphragm. A port may extend through a surface of the driver housing directly between an acoustical cavity within the driver housing and an exterior of the ear-cup housing without communicating acoustically with a volume of space outside the driver housing and within the ear-cup housing.

Ported headphones and related methods

The disclosure includes a system and method for sonically customizing an audio reproduction device. The system includes a processor and a memory storing instructions that when executed cause the system to determine an application environment associated with an audio reproduction device associated with a user; determine one or more sound profiles based on the application environment; provide the one or more sound profiles to the user; receive a selection of a first sound profile from the one or more sound profiles; and generate tuning data based on the first sound profile, the tuning data configured to sonically customize the audio reproduction device.

Method of dynamically modifying an audio output

A headphone includes an ear-cup housing and an audio driver. The audio driver has a driver housing, and a driver aperture extending through the audio driver from an exterior thereof toward a diaphragm. A mass port plug is disposed at least partially within the driver aperture extending through the audio driver. The mass port plug has an acoustic aperture extending through the mass port plug from a first side thereof to an opposing second side thereof, and the acoustic aperture is configured to cause the audio driver to exhibit a selected detectable sound pressure level (SPL) profile. Methods of fabricating headphones include insertion of such a mass port plug into a driver aperture extending through an audio driver. The mass port plugs and methods may be used to adapt substantially identical audio drivers for use in ear-cup housings having differing configurations while providing selected detectable sound pressure level profiles.

Mass port plug for customizing headphone drivers, and related methods

Headphones include removable audio drivers electrically coupled with electrical conductors using solderless and detachable interconnections. Driver assemblies for headphones include an audio driver and a driver unit housing. An acoustical cavity is defined between the driver unit housing and the audio driver, and a port extends through the driver unit housing between the acoustical cavity and the exterior of the driver assembly. The driver unit housing is configured to be secured within an outer ear-cup housing of a headphone such that the port is open to the exterior of the headphone without communicating acoustically with a volume outside the driver unit housing and within the outer ear-cup housing. Headphones include such driver assemblies. Methods are used to form such headphones and driver assemblies.

Customizing audio reproduction devices

An apparatus related to a magnetic circuit design is disclosed. The apparatus includes a magnetic assembly and an electrically-conductive mobile member. The magnetic assembly includes an inner magnet, an outer magnet, an inner cap, an outer cap and a washer. The magnetic assembly is configured to produce a magnetic field having a zone of operation between the inner cap and the outer cap. The zone of operation has substantially uniform magnetic field strength. The zone of operation has magnetic field directions substantially perpendicular to an ideal motion direction. The electrically-conductive mobile member is disposed in the zone of operation of the magnetic field and electrically coupled to a diaphragm of a driver. The electrically-conductive mobile member is configured to move within the zone of operation of the magnetic field in response to the magnetic field when an alternating current is passed through the electrically-conductive mobile member.

Dual ring magnet apparatus

A mass port configured to tune a frequency response of an audio reproduction device is disclosed. The mass port includes a head portion and an insertion portion coupled to the head portion. The head portion includes a sealing structure on a rear side. The head portion is configured to attach to a rear plate of a driver at the sealing structure. The insertion portion is configured to be inserted into a speaker port on the rear plate of the driver. The head portion and the insertion portion include an air slot that runs through the head portion and the insertion portion.
