An inductive power transmitter and an inductive power receiver include communication circuitry to communicate using modulation of the power transfer field. The inductive power transmitter or the inductive power receiver includes monitoring circuitry to determine a communication fault condition. If a communication fault condition is determined, a converter of the inductive power transmitter or inductive power receiver can adjust a control parameter.

Wireless power transfer

In an inductively coupled power transmitter a force detector that detects the presence of a potential device by monitoring forces applied to a surface of the power transmitter and activates the inductively coupled power transmitter upon detection of a potential device. An inductively coupled power transmitter having a proximity detector that detects the presence and location of a potential device by monitoring the proximity of devices to a surface of the power transmitter and activates the inductively coupled power transmitter upon detection of a potential device. The transmitter preferably has one or more detection coils each having an area much greater than that of the transmitter coils for detecting the presence of a potential device. An inductively coupled power transmitter including a plurality of transmitter coils proximate a charging surface and a controller selecting and driving a combination of transmitter coils providing the coupling between the power transmitter and a power receiver meeting a selection criteria.

Inductively coupled power transfer systems

An inductive power transmitter for an inductive power transfer system including a power regulation circuit utilising only primary side parameters to control power flow. The duty cycle of the waveform applied to the transmitter coil is adjusted based on the ratio of the output current of the power supply and the current supplied to the resonant circuit (the current ratio). This may be further compensated based on the amount of power supplied to the transmitter.

The invention relates to a contactless connector (), a system including the contactless connector () and a corresponding mating connector (), and a manufacturing method for the contactless connector. In order to enable the contactless connector () to transmit/receive power to/from the corresponding mating connector (), the invention suggest providing at the contactless connector an inner ferrite element () and an inductive coupling element () arranged to at least partially surround the inner ferrite element. An outer ferrite element () of the contactless connector is arranged to at least partially surround the inductive coupling element (), wherein a front end () of the outer ferrite element () facing the mating () end of the contactless connector is recessed in an axial direction of the contactless connector with respect to a front end () of the inner ferrite element () facing the mating end. A rear end () of the outer ferrite element () is magnetically connected to a rear end () of the inner ferrite element (). An inductive coupling support element () is arranged around the inner ferrite element (). The inductive coupling element is a wire wound around the inductive coupling support element (to form a coil comprising a plurality of coil windings (). The inductive coupling support element (comprises an outwardly extending intermediate disc that divides the coil windings () into a first and a second coil winding section. The intermediate disc () has a slot () forming a coil wire passageway through which the coil wire is routed.

Contactless connector, contactless connector system, and a manufacturing method for the contactless connector

A magnetically permeable core for use in wireless power transfer systems. The core includes a base with first and second portions that extend away from the base. The first portion extends further from the base than the second portion in order to maintain an effective flux linkage throughout a range of relative displacement of a receiving core from a transmitting core. Transmitters and/or receivers for use in wireless power transfer systems may include the magnetically permeable core and windings.

The connector further comprises an antenna element () and an antenna connection line () arranged in an opening in the inner ferrite element ().
