An antenna is provided that includes a mast, a first dipole, and a second dipole. The first dipole crosses with the second dipole, and the first dipole and the second dipole form a first antenna assembly that is coupled to the mast. A hybrid power divider is coupled to the first antenna assembly, and an internal feed system, positioned within the mast, is coupled to the hybrid power divider. The antenna may include a rigid coaxial internal and external feed system.

Antenna system and method

A waveguide system that includes a plurality of waveguide sections, each taking the form of an elongated longitudinally extending tubular member having a substantially circular shaped wall in cross section which coaxially surrounds a longitudinal axis. The wall has a longitudinally extending trough portion extending radially inward toward the longitudinal axis. The trough portion is defined by a pair of circumferentially spaced wall portions extending inwardly and joined together by a connecting wall portion. The wall portions together define a ridge having an inner surface on the interior side of the wall and an outer surface on the exterior side of the wall. Each waveguide section has opposing ends with each end having a longitudinally extending peripheral lip at the ridge. The wall has at each said end an annular mounting flange extending essentially radially outward from the exterior side of the wall. A plurality of spaced apart fastening means interconnect the annular mounting flanges of adjoining waveguide sections together in such a manner that at least one of interconnecting means is located in trough portion.

An antenna system is presented herein for radiating RF energy. This system includes a vertical mast having N vertically oriented faces which surround a vertically extending mast and wherein N is equal to at least 3. A plurality of vertically spaced antenna bays is provided with each bay having an array of N antennas carried by the mast. Each antenna includes radiating means located substantially in a plane parallel to one of the N faces. Each face is oriented at a given angle ##EQU1## from an adjacent face. The mast has N corners, each corner being located intermediate a pair of faces. N fins are provided with each fin being associated with one of the corners and extending radially outward of the axis beyond the associated corner.

Antenna system

An antenna system is presented having a feed for feeding an antenna and apparatus for supporting the feed. The system includes a vertically oriented, electrically conductive hollow mast which carries first and second groups of vertically spaced bays of radiating elements. Each bay includes an arrangement of N radiating elements extending outward from the mast. N vertically oriented electrically conductive, hollow feed support members are spaced away from the mast. Each support member carries an elongated feed conductor extending vertically within the support member. The support members extend vertically upward coextensively with that of the mast to approximately midway between said first and second groups of bays. N hollow electrically conductive, coupling arms are provided and each arm extends between the mast and one of the N support members. Each arm carries first and second conductors each connected at one end to a feed conductor. The first conductor extends upwardly within the mast to feed the first group. The second conductor extends downwardly within the mast to feed the second group.

Antenna feed and support system

An RF expansion joint is presented herein for connecting first and second axially spaced tubular conductor sections, having opposed free ends, together as the sections expand and contract with temperature variations and for providing passage of RF energy at a desired operating frequency between the sections. The joint includes an insulator sleeve which is received by the first section with the sleeve having a passageway extending longitudinally therethrough. An electrically conductive stub having proximal and distal ends is mounted to the free end of the second conductor section and extends into the passageway of the sleeve so as to be slidably received thereby. The distal end of the stub extends beyond the sleeve sufficient that the distal end is spaced inwardly from the inner wall of the first conductor section presenting essentially an open circuit to passage of RF energy.

RF expansion joint

A transition is provided between a first rectangular waveguide and a second circular wrapped rectangular waveguide. The second waveguide takes the form of an elongated metallic annular wall having upper and lower ends and a partition member extending radially inward from the annular wall and having an inner edge located near the central axis of the annular wall. The partition member extends longitudinally for a length corresponding with that of the annular wall. An elongated metal probe is secured to the lower end of the partition member. The first rectangular waveguide has parallel rectangular broad walls interconnected by narrower walls. The first waveguide is oriented perpendicular to the central axis of the annular wall and has a circular aperture in one of the broad walls facing the lower end of the second waveguide with the aperture being in coaxial alignment with the annular wall. The first and second waveguides are secured together in such a manner that the probe extends through the aperture into the interior of the first waveguide.
