A fabric is treated by applying a nanoparticle type coating to improve their resistance to contamination by foreign matter. The coating is applied during fabric manufacture and cured during heat setting. Alternatively, the coating applied or renewed by utilizing an existing shower or locating a spray boom or other suitable coating application device to apply the coating to the fabric in a controlled, uniform manner. Prior to application of the coating, the fabric is first thoroughly cleaned such as by showering or spraying, and then dried. Following controlled application of the coating, any excess material is removed by a suitable means, such as by vacuum, and the remaining coating on the fabric is then cured, either by utilizing the ambient heat of the equipment or by a portable bank of heaters. In this manner, the fabric does not have to be removed from the machine in order to apply or renew the contaminant resistant coating.

A fabric having a first woven fabric layer forming a paper side and made of first threads, and a second woven fabric layer made of second threads, the two woven fabric layers being connected by binder threads belonging to the first woven fabric layer such that at binding points the respective binder thread binds with one first thread on the paper side, then changes to the second woven fabric layer and binds with at least two second threads and then returns to the first woven fabric layer again and binds with a first thread on the paper side, wherein at binding points only one first thread is not bound by the said binder thread.

Paper maker fabric

A papermaking fabric is treated by applying a nanoparticle type coating to improve their resistance to contamination by foreign matter in the papermaking system. Papermaking fabrics with contaminant resistant nanoparticle coating and method of in situ application

A fabric for forming a fibrous paper web having an embossed surface is provided that includes at least longitudinal and transverse threads interwoven with one another in a weave repeat defining a machine side and a paper side. Some of the longitudinal threads form embossing threads having projecting paper side floats on the paper side of the fabric passing over more than one transverse thread. The fabric includes at least a first woven fabric layer forming the paper side on its outside and having longitudinal and transverse first threads interwoven with one another and a second woven fabric layer forming the machine side on its outside and having longitudinal and transverse second threads interwoven with one another. At least some of the longitudinal second threads form embossing threads, which penetrate the first woven fabric layer for forming the paper side floats and connect the two woven fabric layers.

A woven papermaker fabric having a first woven fabric layer made of first threads and having a second woven fabric layer made of second threads, the two woven fabric layers being connected by binder threads formed by structural second threads at binder points and having knuckles having peaks constituting a peak plane parallel to a paper side plane, and the first threads forming knuckles with concave inner bends, the points of which lying nearest to the paper side plane constituting an inner plane, wherein the tension of the first threads extending transversely to the binder threads is such that the peak plane is nearer to the paper side plane than the inner plane thereby causing lateral deflections of at least one of the first threads.

A papermaker's fabric including at least one system of warp yarns interwoven with at least first and second systems of weft yarns, with the weft yarns of the first system of weft yarns having a vertical dimension that is greater than a vertical dimension of the weft yarns of the second system. The fabric has a papermaking surface and a machine side surface, and in the papermaking surface, the yarns of the first system of weft yarns are interwoven with the warp yarns to provide groups of four weft yarn floats which form four corners of a box shape, the yarns of the second system of weft yarns are interwoven with the warp yarns so as to pass through the bottom of the box shape, and further provide support areas in pockets located adjacent to the box shapes, and at least one yarn from the second system of weft yarns interweaves with the warp yarns to occupy space in a center plane of the fabric so as to restrict or retard drainage and thereby increase a center plane resistance of the fabric.

Papermaker'S fabric to develop caliper and topography in paper products

A double layer forming fabric for a papermaking machine is warp-tied, all the warp yarns comprising binder pairs which forming a single combined path in the paper side surface. The pair members exchange positions at an exchange point between successive path segments and are laterally displaced in relation to each other at and between each exchange point. For each successive pair, an order of insertion of the first and second members in relation to each other into the weave is inverted in relation to the order of insertion for members of the immediately preceding pair, such that each first member is adjacent to the first member of the adjacent pair at the closest exchange point, and each second member is adjacent to the second member of the adjacent pair at the closest exchange point. The fabric has improved drainage uniformity leading to improved paper formation and reduced sheet marking.

Warp-tied forming fabric with selective warp pair ordering

A double layer papermakers' fabric that is particularly suitable for forming or through-air drying (TAD) of high bulk tissue and towel product is provided. The fabric includes a single warp yarn system interwoven with three weft yarn systems such that: a first of the weft yarn systems is located on the paper side (PS) surface of the fabric; a second of the weft yarn systems is located on the machine side (MS) surface of the fabric; and the third weft yarn system is located intermediate between the first and second weft yarn systems. The yarns of the first and second weft yarn systems are interwoven with the warp yarn system such that they are vertically stacked with respect to one another in the fabric. The yarns of the third weft yarn system are interwoven so as to be located in a central plane of the fabric that is intermediate of the first and second weft yarn systems, and each yarn of the third yarn system is located in between the vertically stacked pairs of weft yarns of the first and second weft yarn systems. The warp and weft yarn systems are interwoven according to an asymmetric design which provides generally rectangular pockets on each of the PS and MS of the fabric with the yarns of the third weft yarn system forming the 'bottom' of each pocket. There may be from about 50 to 750 pockets per sq. in. of fabric, each ranging in depth from about 0.1 mm to about 1.0 mm in depth; these pockets impart unevenness to the fabric surface which assists in creating bulk in the sheet formed or conveyed thereon. The fabrics of the invention also offer low sheet contact area, typically less than 30% of the total fabric surface, and generally in the range of from 15% to about 20%. The fabrics are also highly air permeable to ensure good air flow and drainage of the sheet.

Double layer papermakers fabric with pockets for bulk enhancement

A multilayered papermakers' forming fabric comprises at least one set of machine direction (MD) warp yarns, at least a first set of cross-machine direction (CD) machine side layer weft yarns; and paper side layer weft yarns woven in a repeating pattern with at least some of the MD warp yarns. At least some of the paper side layer weft yarns comprise an array of bulk enhancing weft yarns each having a vertical dimension which exceeds a corresponding vertical dimension of each of the remaining paper side layer weft yarns in a ratio of at least 1.25:1. Selected weft yarns can have different float lengths in the paper side surface. The fabrics of the invention impart increased bulk for products such as towel or tissue without loss of other required characteristics.

Bulk enhancing forming fabrics

A single layer papermakers fabric comprises machine direction (MD) warp yarns interwoven with cross-machine direction (CD) weft yarns to a repeating weave pattern requiring N sheds in the loom, N being an integer and at least 4. Each warp yarn follows a path in the paper side surface comprising four segments in each pattern repeat. In each of the first and third segments, the warp yarn interweaves with three consecutive weft yarns to form a double warp knuckle, and in the second and fourth segments, the warp yarn forms respectively a first and second MD float having unequal float lengths, at least one of the MD floats being over at least N consecutive weft yarns. The fabrics provide high air permeability, and increased surface contact area, stability and seam strength, and are particularly suitable for use as forming fabrics and through air dryer fabrics for tissue and towel products.

Single layer papermakers fabric

A flat woven papermaker's forming fabric having a paper side layer and a machine side layer interconnected by pairs of weft binder yarns. Each of the binder yarn pair members in sequence interweaves with a portion of the paper side layer warp yarns in segments of the weft yarn path so as to complete an unbroken weft path in the paper side layer weave pattern, and to provide an internal paper side layer float. Each of the binder yarn pair floats interlaces with a machine side layer warp yarn so as to bind the paper and machine side layers together. To recess the binder yarns from the plane of fabric wear the interlacing point is located at or near the midpoint of an internal float in the machine side layer warp yarn. The number of paper side layer weft yarns located between each of the pairs of intrinsic weft yarns is irregular within one repeat of the overall fabric weave pattern. The location of the paper side layer internal floats also determines the interlacing locations with the machine side layer. A wider choice of possible paper and machine side layer weave design combinations than was previously possible is thus made available in forming fabrics including weft binder yarn pairs, thereby allowing for a better match between the fabric and the paper maker's requirements.

Forming fabric

A composite forming fabric in which the woven paper and machine side layers are interconnected by pairs of intrinsic weft binder yarns which interweave with the paper side layer to occupy an unbroken weft path. Each member interweaves sequentially with the warps of the paper side layer and with at least one warp of the machine side layer. Each part of the unbroken weft path is separated from adjacent parts by at least one paper side layer warp yarn. The unbroken weft path is the same, or different, to the weft path of the immediately adjacent paper side layer weft yarns. This arrangement overcomes the paper side layer surface imperfections, which cause an unacceptable level of marking, hitherto associated with the use of intrinsic weft binder yarns in composite fabrics.

Composite papermaking fabric with paired weft binding yarns

A single layer papermaking machine forming fabric which is woven from a single layer of warps interlaced with primary wefts, secondary wefts, and, if desired, tertiary wefts. The secondary and tertiary wefts are located between the primary wefts. The fabric is woven in a first pattern which repeats once in N sheds, and N is at least 10. The primary, secondary, and, if present, tertiary weft are woven to second, third, and, if present, fourth patterns in a lower number of sheds and which repeat at least twice within the first pattern. This weave provides a forming fabric having good first pass retention, good drainage properties, reduced wire mark, good fabric height and good release characteristics. In certain pattern combinations a forming fabric can be woven exhibiting a level of visual discontinuity or randomness in the paper side face.
