An electrical contact, comprises, a wire connecting portion 16, 17 of the contact constructed for being overlaid by a corresponding electrical wire and for being welded to the corresponding wire by welding electrodes of a welding apparatus, a top surface 20 of the contact having an elongated recess 22 recessed toward the bottom surface 21 for cradling the corresponding wire, and the bottom surface 21 lacking deformation outwardly by formation of the recess 22 in the top surface 20.

Provided is a device for interconnecting high voltage electrical components employing a terminal assembly housing, a poke-in terminal, an elongated receptacle featuring a mounting means, anti-surface tracking elements, an axially extending cavity in communication with the terminal, and a compressible snap cap assembly which compresses about, grips and secures the wire.

Electrical connector

Modular electrical connector assemblies and filtered connector inserts therefor. The assembly includes one or more filtered connector inserts releasably mounted within an outer conductive shell. A plurality of filtered contact assemblies are releasably retained within the insert. Each filtered contact assembly includes an electrical contact, a filter electrically coupled to the contact, and a first grounding means electrically coupled to said filter. The filtered contact assemblies are releasably and electrically coupled to the insert when the assemblies are releasably mounted to the insert, and to the outer shell when the insert is mounted within the shell. With the invention, a grounding path is automatically provided from the filter associated with each filtered contact assembly to the outer shell to dissipate filtered interference, while allowing individual removal and replacement of each filtered contact assembly from the insert, and removal and replacement of each insert from the shell. The filtered inserts have the same dimensions and contact placement as their corresponding unfiltered inserts, and are fully interchangeable therewith.

Modular connector assembly and filtered insert therefor

A transient suppression assembly for protecting individual circuits on printed circuit boards and for retrofitting existing electrical connectors is disclosed. The assembly is comprised of a dielectric substrate means having terminal engaging means disposed thereon, a grounding means and transient suppression means such as diodes electrically connecting said terminal engaging means and said ground means for suppressing voltages outside a specified level as they are conducted through terminals of the connector and said terminal engaging means.

Transient suppression assembly

A microminiature, multi-pin electrical connector for high voltage applications. The connector includes a plug portion including a resilient body member having a plurality of cavities therein, and a receptacle portion having a plurality of extended members. When the plug and receptacle portions are connected, the extended members extend into the cavities to mate terminal means within the cavities and extended portions. The receptacle portion includes means for supporting the extended members while permitting them to move independently relative to one another. Radial and axial compression seals, preferably formed integral with the resilient body member, are provided to seal between the peripheral surface of each cavity and the outer peripheral surface of each extended member, and the base surface of each cavity and the extended end surface of each extended member, respectively. The seals permit the extended members to float and automatically align themselves within their associated cavities to ensure the establishment and maintenance of an effective seal between the walls of the cavities and the extended members. The connector portions include outer metal housings, and the resilient body member includes an integral annular flange for sealing between the housings when the connector portions are connected to provide a substantially fully shielded connector capable of carrying 6 KVDC within a temperature range of about -55.degree. C. to about +125.degree. C. and over a broad range of pressure.

Shielded microminiature multi-pin connector

A filtered electrical connector comprises three main parts, a header housing in which are located a plurality of socket contacts, an apertured filter ground plate connected to ground and having located therein a number of hollow tubular filter sleeve elements corresponding to the number of socket contacts, the latter elements having stems or legs located in the filter sleeve elements and soldered thereto and a ground plate secured to the front of the housing and providing a connector between ground and the shell of a pin connection adapted to be inserted into the receptacle.

Filtered electrical receptacle

A filtered electrical connector for connection to a complementary electrical connector is disclosed. The connector is comprised of a dielectric housing means having a plurality of terminal receiving passageways therein; electrical terminal means disposed in the terminal receiving passageways, the terminal means being terminated onto electrical conductor means; filter means electrically coupled to the conductor means; grounding means electrically coupled to the filter means; and conductive housing means for receiving the dielectric housing means. The conductive housing means is electrically connectable to the grounding means. In accordance with the invention, the filter means may be tubular sleeve members or a monolithic planar filter member.

Filtered electrical connector

A filtered, multiple terminal, electrical connector for use with circuit boards or the like. The connector comprises a housing, a plurality of terminals positioned in the housing, and a monolithic planar capacitor filter for filtering interference. The terminals comprise resilient spring members and are configured such that when a second connector is mated with the connector, the terminals of the second connector will apply a retention force against the terminals, forcing them toward and pressing them against the monolithic planar capacitor to maintain the terminals in firm electrical contact with the monolithic planar capacitor. The connector also includes U-shaped grounding clips having first arms which extend into the housing in electrical contact with the monolithic planar capacitor, and second arms external of the housing for providing external grounding paths. The terminals each include a protrusion thereon adapted to impinge shoulders on the housing to resist withdrawal of the terminals from the housing while permitting them to be easily inserted into the housing. The filtered connector is fully interchangeable with its unfiltered counterpart and is low in cost, simple in construction, and easy to assemble.

A pin connector has a pin carrier into which a plurality of contact pins snap in and are retained; the pin carrier being cemented in an outer conductive shell having a plurality of hollow tubular filter member with each pin having a part thereof seated in a different one of the tubular members and the outer diameter of the tubular filter members are grounded whereby to provide a low pass filter in the body for each pin. A front pin guide is inserted in the end of the shell opposite the pin carrier, all members being aligned by means of a key in the interior surface of the shell and keywrap in all of the interior inserts.

Filtered electrical plug

An improved multi-pin high voltage connector is disclosed. The connector is easy to assemble and use, is low in cost and can withstand on the order of ten thousand mating cycles. It also has recessed contacts so that it is substantially impossible to make accidental engagement with the contacts in either the mated or unmated condition. The contact isolation is provided by intermating egg crate walls on both the plug and receptacle members which are received in grooves in the opposite member. This also provides an extremely long creepage path.

Multi-pin high voltage connector

A connector assembly is disclosed for mounting a module on a circuit board or the like without requiring any soldering. The subject assembly includes a header mounted on a circuit board to at least partially enclose an area of contacts integral with the circuit board. A plug assembly is secured to a mating module and adopted to engage in the header. The plug assembly includes an outer housing enclosing an inner housing which is directly attached to the module and movable within the outer housing. At least one series of spring terminals are mounted in the plug assembly with a first portion engaging the outer housing and a second portion bearing against the module carried by the inner housing. Spring bias means are mounted in the outer housing bearing against the opposite side of the inner housing from the terminals. Both the terminal and the bias spring are profiled to assume either a rest condition, or an over centered contacting position so that when the plug assembly is mated into the header there is initially no contact force but subsequently insertion force applied over centers the terminals and the bias spring to place them into an over centered condition in which the terminals engage both the module and the circuit board making good electrical and mechanical contact therebetween. It is particularly of note that no solder is required in the subject invention and that all electrical contacts are made through a mechanical action.
