The present invention relates to naphthoquinone derivatives isolated from solid callus cultures from two species of the palaeotropical plant families Dioncophyllaceae and Ancistrocladaceae. It further relates to methods of their production as well as to their use as antiinfective and antitumoral pharmaceuticals.

Provided is a medicinal composition, in particular, a medicinal composition for treatment and/or prevention which has a high therapeutic effect on infection with a parasitic protozoa and a selective toxicity thereto and exhibits a life-prolonging effect and so on. A medicinal composition which contains as the active ingredient a benzo[a]phenoxazine compound represented by General formula (1) or a salt compound of the same, in particular, an agent for treating and/or preventing infection with a protozoa such as malaria, leishmaniasis, African trypanosomiasis, Chagas disease, toxoplasmosis, lymphatic filariasis, babesiosis or coccidium disease; and a novel compound which is contained therein as the active ingredient.

Linear dicationic terphenyls and their aza analogues as antiparasitic agents

Disclosed herein are novel dicationic teraryl compounds and their aza analogues, including compounds of Formula (IIe): wherein p and q are each 0 and each A, Y and Z is CR. An exemplary compound of Formula (IIe) is: Methods for combating microbial infections, such as parasiticspecies, with novel dicationic terphenyl compounds and their aza analogues are included. Processes for synthesizing novel dicationic terphenyl compounds and their aza analogues are disclosed along with methods for evaluation of the compounds as potential anti-protozoan agents.

Teraryl components as antiparasitic agents

Novel fused ring dicationic anti-protozoan compounds. Representative protozoan species include but are not limited to(T.b.r.) and. Prodrugs of these compounds can be used as an oral treatment for malaria and human African trypanosomiasis.

Novel dicationic bichalcophene compounds are described. The presently disclosed novel dicationic bichalcophene compounds exhibit in vitro activity versus, orcomparable to that of pentamidine and furamidine. Some of the novel dicationic bichalcophene compounds displayed good activity in vivo in a murine model of ainfection.
