An electronic device, method, and computer program product optimize automatic backups by aggregating remotely generated media content for automatic backup. The electronic device receives, from image capturing device(s), local media content including image(s) and/or video(s). The electronic device performs content recognition to identify local object(s) contained in the local media content. The electronic device monitors execution of a media application that accesses remote media content and performs content recognition to identify object(s) contained in the remote media content. In response to determining that remote media content contains object(s) that is also identified in the local media content, stores the remote media content in a data structure in memory. The electronic device uploads, via a communication network to a network storage service, all media content stored in the data structure.

Aggregating shared image/video content for cloud backup

An electronic device, method, and computer program product optimize automatic backup of locally stored media content such as videos and images by identifying and locally caching low quality content rather than automatically backing up to reduce network storage. Image capturing device(s) of the electronic device generates media content of at least one of images and videos. A controller of the electronic device receives the media content from the image capturing device(s). The controller determines a quality value of the media content and stores the media content in a cache data structure in memory. The controller stores, in a digital camera image data structure in the memory, media content having a quality value that is greater than or equal to a minimum quality threshold level. The controller uploads, via a communication network to a network storage service, the portion of the media content stored in the digital camera image data structure.

Pre-filtering locally stored image/video content for cloud backup

Techniques for personalized digital content generation are described and are implementable to generate digital content based on content that depicts a scene from one or more locations and content that depicts one or more individuals. The described implementations, for instance, enable generation of a personalized photo album for a user depicting the user at the one or more locations. The described implementations further enable generation of an itinerary including personalized digital content. In an example, an input including a location is received. Environment content is generated that depicts a scene of the location. User content is generated that includes a representation of one or more individuals. Personalized content is then generated by incorporating the representation of the one or more individuals into the scene, and the personalized content is output for display. The personalized content is further usable to generate a personalized itinerary for a user.

Personalized digital content generation

A content access control system of a device determines whether the device is in possession of an owner of the device or another (secondary or non-owner) user and controls access to media content stored on the device based on the determination. The person in possession of the device at any given time is typically the person holding the device in his or her hand(s). If the device is in possession of the device owner, the system allows all media content on the device to be accessed. If the device is in possession of a secondary user, the system restricts access to media content on the device, such as by displaying only media content that has been captured within a threshold amount of time (e.g., the past hour) and that includes both the owner and the secondary user. Other restrictions can also be applied, such as disabling presentation of notifications.

Controlling non-owner access to media content on a computing device

An electronic device includes a user interface. The user interface can include a display. One or more sensors, which may include an imager, can be included as well. One or more processors are operable with the user interface and the one or more sensors. The one or more processors determine, from signals from the one or more sensors, whether one or more persons are within a predefined environment of the electronic device. Where only one person is within the predefined environment, the one or more processors request entry of a user authentication code at the user interface to authenticate the one person as an authorized user of the electronic device. However, where two or more persons are within the predefined environment, the one or more processors preclude entry of the user authentication code at the user interface. This prevents nefarious actors from seeing entry of the user authentication code.
