A system converts the data of data objects stored in a DDOS from one data format to another while the system is live and available to process requests for access to the data objects being converted. This process does not require taking the DDOS offline and also does not require locking a data object for the entire conversion of the data object.

Live data conversion and migration for distributed data object systems

Techniques are disclosed for migrating data objects stored by the source DDOS from the source DDOS to the target DDOS while at least the source DDOS is live and available to process requests for access to the data objects being migrated. The techniques also provide eventual consistency between data objects that are created, updated, or deleted in the source DDOS that are applicable to the migration and that occur while the migration is being performed.

The data of data objects stored in a DDOS are converted from one data format to another. The conversion is performed while the system is live and available to process requests for access to the data objects being converted. The conversion techniques do not require taking the DDOS offline. The conversion techniques also do not require locking a data object for the entire conversion of the data object.
