Methods of making multilayer systems comprising a sealant layer by extruding a coreactive sealant composition are disclosed. The methods can be used to fabricate multilayer systems in which individual layers have different cured properties. Individual layers can also have an inhomogeneous concentration of one or more constituents within a layer. The multilayer systems can be made using three-dimensional printing that facilitate the use of a wide range of coreactive compositions.

Compositions that are resistant to hydraulic fluid and aviation fuel contain sulfur-containing prepolymers and solvent-resistant organic fillers. The compositions are useful in aerospace sealant applications.

Hydraulic fluid and fuel resistant sealants

Chemically resistant sealant compositions include high equivalent weight sulfur-containing prepolymers. Upon exposure to chemicals the properties of sealants prepared using the prepolymers exhibit excellent fuel and phosphate ester resistance.

Chemically resistant sealant compositions and uses thereof

Dual cure compositions include a combination of an organoborane complex and a radical oxidizing agent as co-catalysts. The compositions are curable under dark conditions and can be used to catalyze thiol-ene reactions. The compositions are useful as sealants.

Dual-cure compositions

Disclosed are methods for making a cured sealant. The methods include depositing an uncured sealant composition on a substrate and exposing the uncured sealant composition to actinic radiation to provide a cured sealant. The uncured sealant composition includes a thiol-terminated polythioether, a polyene comprising a polyvinyl ether and/or a polyallyl compound, and a hydroxy-functional vinyl ether. Related sealant compositions are also disclosed.

Cured sealants prepared using compositions containing hydroxyl-containing bis(alkenyl) ether-containing polythioether prepolymers and/or hydroxyl-containing bis(alkenyl) ether curing agents exhibit improved physical properties such as rapid curing and compatibility with fillers suitable for use in aerospace sealant applications.

Urethane/urea-containing bis(alkenyl) ethers can be incorporated into the backbone of polythioether prepolymers and can be used as curing agents in thiol-terminated polythioether prepolymer compositions. Cured sealants prepared using compositions containing urethane/urea-containing bis(alkenyl) ether-containing polythioether prepolymers and/or urethane/urea-containing bis(alkenyl) ether curing agents exhibit improved physical properties suitable for use in aerospace sealant applications.

Thiol-terminated polythioether compositions and sealants exhibit an extended working time and rapidly cure at room temperature at the end of the working time are disclosed. The compositions comprise a combination of pyridine catalysts.
