A forensic evidence container includes a first flexible panel, the first flexible panel including a material having a moisture vapor transmission rate of at least 10 gm/24 hours-100 square inches; a second flexible panel, the second flexible panel including a material having a moisture vapor transmission rate of equal to or less than 5 gm/24 hours-100 square inches; an opening capable of providing access to the interior of the forensic evidence container; an adhesive, applied to the first panel or second panel, having a free surface so arranged as to seal the opening on superposition of the first panel and the second panel; and a tamper evident device arranged on the first or second panel. A peelable flexible third panel, including a material having a moisture vapor transmission rate of equal to or less than 5 gm/24 hours-100 square inches, can optionally be peelably adhered to the first flexible panel.

Forsenic evidence container

An article, such as a tamper evident container, includes an indicator having a first layer including a thermochromic ink composition, and a second layer, disposed on the first layer, having a composition different from the ink composition of the first layer. The article exhibits better evidence of tampering. The first and/or second layer can be in the form of a message.

Article with improved tamper evidence

An apparatus and method for substantially interfacially adhering a suitable protective overcoat onto a receiving surface utilizes therein an optical lamination roller. The optical lamination roller is configured to be capable of substantially transmitting and concentrating optical radiation toward a protective overcoat. Irradiation of the protective overcoat in cooperation with compressive forces generated at the nip effectuate bonding between the protective overcoat and the receiving surface. The optical lamination system provides fast and energy efficient throughput with enhanced reliability of operation.

Optical laminator

A rigid, low expansion formable housing composition can be used to package optical waveguide couplers. The housing is in intimate contact with and strongly bonded to the coupler being packaged. The housing composition includes a formable polymeric resin, a glass-ceramic or ceramic or glass filler, and, optionally, strengthening fibers. The filler has a low thermal expansion to compensate for the high expansion of the resin. A moisture barrier layer may be placed around the housing composition, and it is possible to incorporate a shock absorbing material between the housing and the moisture barrier layer.

Reinforced protective tubes for optical waveguide fibers are provided. The tubes include an inner layer of a polyester elastomer, an outer layer of a polyvinyl chloride polymer, and two longitudinal reinforcing members composed of aramid fibers. The tubes have low thermal expansion, an outside diameter of less than about 1,000 microns, and can be used to form the pigtails of optical waveguide couplers. Methods for producing the protective tubes in which the reinforcing members and the plastic layers are coated onto a removable core member are also disclosed.

Reinforced protective tube for optical waveguide fibers

Single fiber cables of the composite buffer type are provided which include: (a) a central optical waveguide fiber; (b) a layer of fill compound surrounding the optical fiber; (c) a layer of aramid fiber surrounding the fill compound; and (d) a plastic jacket surrounding the layer of aramid fiber. Multi-fiber cables are also provided which include: (a) a plurality of optical waveguide fibers; (b) a layer of aramid fiber surrounding the optical fibers; (c) fill compound in contact with the inner surface of the layer of aramid fiber and with the optical fibers; and (d) a plastic jacket surround the layer of aramid fiber. Methods for producing cables of these types are disclosed.

Composite buffer optical fiber cables

Optical communication media particularly adapted for blow-in installation, including single optical fibers and lightweight flexible optical cables comprising one or more glass optical fibers in a multilayer polymer coating, are disclosed. The multilayer coating includes a textured polymer outer layer and at least one soft buffer layer positioned between the textured polymer outer layer and the glass optical fiber or fibers, the buffer layer comprising a low T.sub.g polymer and preferably having a layer thickness at least sufficient to maintain thermally induced microbending loss in the optical communication medium below about 0.5 db/km at medium operating temperatures in the range of 0.degree. C. to -60.degree. C.

Coated optical fibers and cables and method

Plastic ducts suitable for use alone or as components of telecommunications cables to provide for easy installation of optical fibers by blow-in methods, together with optical cable designs incorporating such ducts, are described. The ducts, most preferably provided as plastic tubes, are characterized by inner sidewall compositions of a modified polyvinyl chloride (PVC)-based compound, the compound consisting at least predominantly of PVC polymer but additionally containing up to about 20% by weight of fluorocarbon polymers compounded directly with the PVC.

Optical fiber cabling

A method and apparatus for the rapid on-line coating of optical fibers with two-package polymer coating systems utilizing conventional liquid fiber coaters is described. The A and B parts of the two-package coating system are continuously combined and mixed together to form a polymerizable coating liquid as the fiber is drawn. This polymerizable coating liquid is continuously delivered to the liquid coater at a rate corresponding to the rate at which it is applied to the fiber, suitable control of the delivery rate being achieved via the use of a feedback signal to the coating liquid delivery system from, e.g., the fiber coater.
