A rivetable adhesive for use in a joint between dissimilar materials, comprising a liquid epoxy resin, an expoxidized polysulfide, a flexibilizer, a solid epoxy CTBN adduct based upon bisphenol A, a phenoxy resin, an impact modifier including methacrylate-butadiene-styrene, a curing agent; and a blowing agent. The adhesive finds particular suitability for use in riveting aluminum panels to steel structures, such as for forming automotive vehicle roof structures.

Bonding dissimilar materials with adhesive paste

An adhesive material and articles incorporating the same is disclosed. The adhesive material includes at least three of epoxy resin; impact modifier; flexibilizer, blowing agent; curing agent; and filler. The adhesive material is preferably used for structural adhesion but may be used for sealing, baffling or reinforcing an article of manufacture such as an automotive vehicle.

The sealant material includes up to about 80% of an epoxy resin; up to about 40% of an epoxy/elastomer hybrid; up to about 40% of a rheology modifier; up to about 5% of a blowing agent; up to about 7% of a curing agent; and about 40 to about 60% of a filler.
