A light-emitting device and a method for manufacturing the light-emitting device is disclosed. Such a light-emitting device comprises a substrate, a plurality of cells disposed on the substrate, and a plurality of semiconductor dice, wherein each of the plurality of cells accommodates at least one of the plurality of dice. Each of the plurality of cells may be filled with an encapsulant, phosphor or a mixture of an encapsulant with phosphor to control light characteristics of the light-emitting device. In an alternative aspect, cells may be filled with an encapsulant, and comprise a transparent cover coated with or filled with phosphors to control light characteristics of the light-emitting device.

Light-emitting device array with individual cells

Devices and techniques are disclosed herein which include a die including side surfaces such that light emitted from the die can exit through the side surfaces. The die includes a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface such that the distance between the first surface and the second surface is at least 100 micro meters. The die also include a wavelength converting material deposited external to the die such that the wavelength converting material covers the side surfaces. The wavelength converting material includes phosphor particles, a transparent risen carrier, and transparent particles configured to increase the volume of the wavelength converting material, the transparent particles having a refractive index (RI) that is similar to the RI of the transparent risen carrier.

Light modules and methods of forming light modules are disclosed. A light module includes a first plurality and a second plurality of light emitting elements configured to emit, respectively, a first light and a second light, and both arranged on a substrate. An encapsulation layer is disposed over the first and second plurality of the light emitting elements, and a wavelength converting element is dispersed in the encapsulation layer. A concentration of the wavelength converting element in the encapsulation layer varies, is larger over the first plurality of light emitting elements and is smaller over the second plurality of light emitting elements.

Hybrid chip-on-board LED module with patterned encapsulation

A multiple analyte detection system includes a carrier having reagents disposed thereat, with each of the reagents capable of optically changing in response to exposure to a respective analyte. The system further includes a photodetector positioned to collectively detect light interacted with each of the reagents, a processor to determine a presence or an absence of each of the analytes in response to the light collectively-detected, and an indicator to provide an indication of the presence or the absence of each of the analytes. A method of detecting multiple analytes includes exposing reagents capable of optically changing in response to exposure to a respective analyte to a sample. The method further includes collectively detecting light interacted with each of the reagents, determining a presence or an absence of each of the analytes in response to the light collectively detected, and indicating the presence or the absence of each of the analytes determined.

Multiple analyte detection systems and methods of detecting multiple analytes

Different wavelength conversion materials, or different concentrations of a wavelength conversion material are used to encapsulate the light emitting elements of different colors of a hybrid light emitting module. In an embodiment of this invention, the light emitting elements of a particular color are encapsulated with a transparent encapsulant, while the light emitting elements of a different color are encapsulated with a wavelength conversion encapsulant. In another embodiment of this invention, a particular set of light emitting elements of different colors is encapsulated with a different encapsulant than another set of light emitting elements.

An optical device capable of generating warm light using an array of phosphor islands situated over a phosphor layer is disclosed. The device includes a solid state light emitter, a phosphor layer, and phosphor islands. The solid state light emitter, in an aspect, is a light emitting diode ('LED') capable of converting electrical energy to optical light. The phosphor layer is disposed over the solid state light emitter for generating luminous cool light in response to the optical light. Multiple phosphor islands are disposed on the phosphor layer for converting cool light to warm light, wherein the phosphor islands are evenly distributed over the phosphor layer.

Method and apparatus for generating white light from solid state light emitting devices

A method to calibrate measurements of a test analyte in a test sample including measuring at least one test-light level responsive to reactions of at least one reagent group and at least one reactive test analyte in the test sample and measuring at least one control-light level responsive to reactions of at least one reagent group and at least one control analyte in a control sample. Each control analyte is a known amount of at least one reactive test analyte. The method further includes determining a presence of the reactive test analyte in the test sample based on the measured test-light levels and control-light levels. The reagent group and the reactive test analyte react by attaching to each other.

Method of using differential measurement in two or more channels to improve sensitivity

Different wavelength conversion materials, or different concentrations of a wavelength conversion material are used to encapsulate the light emitting elements of different colors of a hybrid light emitting module. In an embodiment of this invention, second light emitting elements () of a particular color are encapsulated with a transparent second encapsulant (), while first light emitting elements () of a different color are encapsulated with a wavelength conversion first encapsulant (). In another embodiment of this invention, a particular second set of second and third light emitting elements () of different colors is encapsulated with a different encapsulant than another first set of first light emitting elements ().

A system and method for depositing a phosphor composition onto a light emitting device improves manufacturing yield, simplifies conventional processes, and decreases costs. For example, a method of dispensing a phosphor composition onto a light emitting device includes dispensing a portion of the phosphor composition onto the light emitting device utilizing a plurality of colored phosphor dispensers each for dispensing a respective type of phosphor. Power is applied to the light emitting device to emit light, and a characteristic the light emitted by the light emitting device is detected. Phosphor mixing and phosphor dispensing are dynamically controlled. Therefore the color characteristics of phosphor dispensed on LEDs are consistent. The system and method may also reduce the difference between detected characteristic of the light and a desired characteristic of the light.

Method and system for dynamic in-situ phosphor mixing and jetting

A light-emitting device and a method for manufacturing the light-emitting device is disclosed. Such a light-emitting device comprises a substrate, a plurality of cells disposed in the substrate, and a plurality of semiconductor dice, wherein each of the plurality of cells accommodates at least one of the plurality of dice. Each of the plurality of cells may be filled with an encapsulant, phosphor or a mixture of an encapsulant with phosphor to control light characteristics of the light-emitting device. In an alternative aspect, cells may be filled with an encapsulant, and comprise a transparent cover coated with or filled with phosphors to control light characteristics of the light-emitting device.

In an aspect, an LED apparatus includes a metal substrate having a reflective surface, and LED chips mounted directly to the reflective surface to allow for thermal dissipation, and wherein at least a portion of the LED chips are spaced apart from each other to allow light to reflect from a portion of the reflective surface that is located between the portion of the LED chips. In another aspect, a method includes configuring a metal substrate to have a reflective surface, and mounting a plurality of LED chips directly to the reflective surface of the metal substrate to allow for thermal dissipation, and wherein at least a portion of the LED chips are spaced apart from each other to allow light to reflect from a portion of the reflective surface that is located between the portion of the LED chips.
