A method of aggregating a plurality of packet based communication channels is provided by the system. The communication channels connect two common endpoints, and aggregation devices are present at each endpoint to implement an aggregation policy. The system provides a dynamic aggregation system where m aggregation policy is employed on a per packet flow basis. Packet flows can be classified by application type, so that an appropriate aggregation policy can be used for packets belonging to the flow. The selected aggregation policy is used for each flow within the aggregation devices at each endpoint.

Methods and apparatus for aggregating communication channels. In one exemplary embodiment an aggregation device is required only on one side of the set of communication channels being aggregated. Advantageously, no modifications to the source and/or destination of data transfers are required for operation of the invention. In one embodiment utilized for data transfers in the downstream direction, object download requests can be fulfilled by sending a sequence of partial download requests through the set of communication channels being aggregated, and forwarding the resulting partial data objects received to the original requester in the proper order. In another embodiment utilized for upstream data transfers, traffic is bifurcated to travel along a set of communication channels, and the bifurcated traffic is reassembled either at the network layer or the transport layer.

Methods and apparatus for providing quality of service guarantees in computer networks

A method of aggregating a plurality of packet based communication channels is provided by the system. The communication channels connect two common endpoints, and aggregation devices are present at each point to implement an aggregation policy. The system provides a dynamic aggregation system where an aggregation policy is employed on a per packet flow basis. Packet flow can be classified by application type, so that an appropriate aggregation policy can be used for packets belonging to the flow. The selected aggregation policy is used for each flow within the aggregation devices at each endpoint.

The system provides a low cost way of providing high speed point to point communications between two offices, as well as Internet access, which exploits the use of low cost access technologies, such as ADSL, in such a way that (a) no CO component is required to deploy the solution, (b) the two offices could have different types of communication technologies available, and (c) more than two offices can form an overlay network, whereby each pair of offices has a virtual single high throughput pipe available which is achieved through aggregation of Internet access services at each office. The proposed system allows intranet communication links or Internet connections to be aggregated, thereby enabling faster and more reliable communications.

Methods and apparatus for providing quality-of-service guarantees in computer networks

Receivers and reception methods conduct spread spectrum reception using the energy of multiple bits, preferably a substantial number of bits, in a packet for correct alignment of the spreading code at the receiver. Code acquisition, as well as packet detection and acquisition are provided by embodiments of the invention. Preferred embodiment receivers and reception methods provide packet detection at low SINR looking at energy of multiple bits of the packet, frame synchronization using short preamble, timing recovery at low SINR looking at energy of multiple bits of the packet, quick code acquisition using parallel search for all possible code phases, code acquisition at low SINR, and tracking of acquired timing and code phase. Preferred embodiment receivers and reception methods use the energy of multiple bits for making decisions.

Methods, systems and devices for sharing communication resources among a plurality of clients (-) that are part of a common wireless community (). The communication resources are, for example, Internet access resources (-). Another example, might be a video or data delivery communication resource. As an example, clients have separate Internet access accounts. Embodiments of the invention, for example, allow client business units or residential units to share separate Internet access accounts.

Resource sharing broadband access system, methods, and devices

The invention concerns routing, scheduling, and power control methods for single and multi-hop wireless networks. A multi-hop network is one in which source and destination nodes may communicate directly or through relay nodes. Nodes in single hop networks communicate without use of relay nodes. Embodiments of the invention may produce an optimal schedule to provide for the best-case goal for a given parameter. In a preferred embodiment, total power is the parameter and total power is minimized for the network. In another preferred embodiment, data throughput is the parameter, and throughput is maximized for the network.

An X-Hub placed at the center of the network provides for transparent, concurrent transport of signals transmitted by device adapters. Collisions may therefore be eliminated for time-sensitive traffic, thereby guaranteeing timely delivery. A common time reference is established for the device adapters and the X-Hub. The time reference defines a frame with a plurality of phases. Each of the phases defines a state of the X-Hub, and a state for each of the device adapters. Each device adapter is allowed to transmit packets of data onto the network directly to one or more destination device adapters, without the possibility of collisions, during a phase in which it is in a cross-connect mode. Each device adapter can also broadcast unscheduled transmissions, usinig a conventional network protocol (such as CSMA/CD), when it is not in the cross-connect mode. The scheduling of phases to support transport of signals in the cross-connect mode can be dynamically altered, in accordance with a signaling protocol, based on unscheduled transmissions using the conventional network protocol when the X-Hub is so configured.
